The Door of Space and Time was opening.

It shouldn't have been here, Sailor Pluto had closed and locked it behind herself when she went to patrol the pathways that stretched out in all directions behind the imposing panels. She knew where it was supposed to be, several deSitter inversions and a light-year back. Yet somehow the double doors were in front of her, and opening. And yet, something about them was different; the color was paler, bleached of the delicate pink hue that her Princess Serenity and Small Lady had so loved, and the moon phase engravings emanated a chill. There were weathered cracks around the keyhole as if someone had forced open these gates once using knowledge of the doors' weakest point. Sailor Pluto was lost in that detail for a moment, trying to figure out the story it told, but she snapped to attention and readied her Garnet Rod to strike as they cracked apart.

What slipped through the barest opening between the two stone doors, however, disarmed the woman on some deep level. She recognized the ghostly figure, with its snake hair and living serpents as costume detailing, and the pinpoint pupil eyes in glowing schlera. The star-shaped crystal on its chest blazed as brightly as the Light of Hope but the symbol on its forehead was dark, not just black but drinking in all illumination like a miniature black hole. Yet both had the same rayed shape and pulsed with the same energy...the same cosmic heartbeat. It had its arms crossed over its chest, clutching a hoard of translucent crystal deltohedrons...starseeds, Sailor Pluto realized. This was Sailor Chaos. Sailor Cosmos had described her to Eternal Sailor Moon when trying to convince the 'me of that time', as Sailor Cosmos had described Eternal Sailor Moon, to destroy the Galaxy Cauldron. Doing so would have ended the cycle of death and war...but also rebirth and rebuilding. She (both of them, future and past) had decided that life was worth living, even with pain, in both times. To destroy chaos was to destroy the change that everyone was capable of, for better or for worse.

Sailor Pluto recognized some primal part of this being being, and the crystal it held clutched in its left fingers as a version of her own quantum wave function that had opened the door into reality's underpinnings. In its right hand the creature held a pale blue crystal, drawing on Sailor Mercury's powers to have found the portal to space and time and then Sailor Pluto's permissions to unlock it. The cracks in the door...? Then the Door of Space and Time was struck from the other side, something forced into the keyhole and widening those old wounds with precision and rage. It was not the serpentine sailor, then, they had done that damage. Instead it was Eternal Sailor Moon with familiar blonde hair and white wings stepping into view...but the blue eyes that met Sailor Pluto's were cold, devoid of the kindness her Usagi had found even for her worst enemies if they were willing to take her hand in forgiveness. The costume was fancier, detailed with pearls and lace that emphasized this wearer's royalty rather than her grace. And on her head was a crown, shaped like Princess Serenity's but filled out with more metal and detailing and fabric puffery. This young woman led not through love, but through authority and power.

Behind her the Galaxy Cauldron should have swirled and eddied with glowing mist in many colors, but the crystal banks that should have cradled the source of all life were cracked and broken. This Princess Sailor Eternal Moon still had chips of it in her hair and on the staff she pointed at the fleeing Chaos. Sailor Pluto moved to stand in the way without even consciously willing it, but this interloper was dissipating like the mist flowing out of the heart of the galaxy. In breaking it to punish Chaos, the merciless princess of this alternate moon had collapsed her own waveform along with the rest of her world. The door she'd come through was dissolving into sand and vapor as well, entropy taking it as well. Sailor Pluto watched with horror and compassion, wondering how far back the changes had been from what she knew to culminate in such a tragedy. A version of her Usagi was still in there; at the last moment, those blue eyes held a softness and grief that hurried Setsuna forward to try and take this figure's outstretched hand. But the fingers slipped through hers and that gaze went past Sailor Pluto's shoulder.Sailor Chaos! Pluto whirled to track the fugitive, heart pounding in her chest. That serpent-wrapped figure was unwinding as well, the stolen? or rescued? starseeds crumbling like the other door. Sailor Pluto felt the shiver in the bones as 'her' garnet starseed cracked and broke, and the pale blue of Mercury's power boiled off like steam on a hot morning. A warm red light sputtered out in the center of another. The released energy of so many sailor guardian crystals collapsing into the quantum foam, even if they were virtual waveforms, roiled spacetime to where even Pluto with her mastery of this place swayed with dizziness. Fortunately it was over a few moments, or so it seemed, and the mists were placid once more. When Sailor Pluto knelt to inspect where the door and the that sailor soldier princess had been, only a single cracked pearl remained. There was even less where Sailor Chaos had been, not even a fang or fragment of snakeskin. And yet...Setsuna sniffed. Incense. Heat, as in from a fire. Chaos was in everyone's hearts, after all, or so her kind Queen had said before. She wondered whose prayer this Chaos had been drawn to, and made one of her own that this was not the beginning of another long struggle against evil.
