The doll-maker knew
her time on earth was done
So she sewed with love
and a tale was spun.

"Krissi started out
normal of sorts
if you consider normal
being sewn on supports.

She began her journey
with big button eyes
a cotton flower dress
and a pleasant surprise.

She was blessed with
an eye made of green,
the other was pink
right on the seam.

This doll had life
and she was surprised,
a soul lay behind
those off-colored eyes.

One day this doll
for the first time blinked an eye
and being with soul
she felt quite alive.

She stretched her legs
the stitches didn't pop
she moved them back and forth
and came to a stop.

She had seen the adults
of the colorful doll store
walk on their legs
and it seemed like a chore.

So in the dead of night
the doll began to move
blinked the button eyes
and had something to prove.

Determined and strong
she propped herself up
on a flowery painted
ceramic teacup.

She raised an arm
the fabric protested
lifted herself up
and her first step was tested.

Over the course of an hour
she taught herself to walk
now her next step
was of course how to talk.

She had heard many things
while sitting on her shelf
she moved her stitched mouth
and talked to herself.

The words were gibberish
but she didn't know
she walked around walking and talking
as if she was putting on a show.

But as she looked around
she felt quite alone
for although the store was crowded
all the crowd was sewn.

She sat back down on her shelf
feeling defeated
for although she had life
her life was cheated.

She wasn't as big
or as tall as the others
she was just a toy
to the children and mothers.

She lie down on the wood
with a tear in her eye
stared off into space
and didn't notice the dye.

For from her crying
the paint on her face
began to run down
all over the place...

The next morning sun
shined with bliss
the doll-maker entered her store
and found something amiss

Her favorite doll
was gone from it's station
in it's place was a girl
in quiet contemplation.

She ran her fleshy hands
over her hair
it was no longer yarn
as she was aware.

She blinked her eyes
up at the doll-maker
one green, one pink
and that was the breaker.

The woman broke down
dropped to her knees
tears went down her face
and she began to wheeze.

"You are the doll,
come to life, I know it!
your eyes are the proof
the light, they show it!"

The girl looked up
no more tears on her face
she was really alive
a real girl, in the dolls place.

"Years I had prayed
for a daughter of my own
the gods have finally answered
welcome to your home."

The woman got up
still racked with tears
hugged the small girl
and together they spent their years."

The old doll-maker finished
the tale she had told
to her own little grandchildren
who were getting quite old

"Nice story grandma
but we know it's not true
toys don't come to life
just because a lady asked it too."

The doll-maker just smiled,
everyone said their goodbyes
she lied down on the couch
and closed her green and pink eyes.
