Gardener // Bird Watcher // Author
Quote:
* Spent a lot of time gardening
* A Painted Songbird (change colours to just pink and blue & remove flowers. Complete re-draw?) got close to her
* Became friends. Leaquina named it Lily
* Took an interest in birds
* I don't know
* Something about writing a book
Book layout?
Front cover is something to do with birds & a guide to them by Leaquina, first page is an "about the author" page (aka story about Leaquina), page after that is who it's dedicated to/thanks (aka art and profile credits - will probably have "dedicated to Lily. Thank you for starting my obsession" with a hover for credits if that's possible/if it's obvious it's a hover so people know the credits are there. I don't even know...) next few pages are drawings of birds or their anatomy (?) and the last page is the TC. Or, could have the TC one item wide down the side of the "about the author" page as a sort of boarder thing (if possible, hover scroll or scroll overlay).
Can you even do hovers in a book layout? /sob
Could otherwise do a book background (just looks like one, not an actual book layout) with the "about the author" on the left (like how there's that folded over cover on hardbacks with info on) and a dedicated to/thanks page on the right (hover over for credits) and the TC at the bottom (one item deep, hover scroll sidewards).
Instead of overlay, have little button image & put it at top of the "about" section like you might add the image of the author in a book?
Pet info could be on with the credits (at top of hover, just has the info then credits are below) because will be hard to fit elsewhere... :/
Leaquina was born in a small village and grew up with a single mother who spent most of her free time gardening. Because of this, she also spent a lot of her time out in the garden and gained her mother's love of plants. When she eventually left home, she made sure to get a house with a large garden so she could happily spend hours out there each day, always with something to do. While out in the back garden, she enjoyed listening to the birds singing. While outside one day, a small pink and blue bird flitted over to her before resting on her shoulder and tweeting softly. Curious about what type of bird it was, she moved, careful not to scare the bird, to get her camera and took a photo of it.
While she gardened, the bird stayed on her shoulder and returned every day after. Leaquina soon discovered it was a Painted Songbird, using the photo she took and comparing it to photos in bird books, which helped to spark an interest in different breeds of birds. The pair became close and the Painted Songbird, now named Lily, sat on Leaquina's shoulder while she gardened each day. After finishing gardening, she would lie down on the grass to watch the birds and try to work out what types visited frequently while Lily hunted for worms in the grass around her.
As Leaquina's interest in birds grew more, she began to sketch those who visited her garden and wrote as much information she could about each of the different species, compiling a book on local birds instead of her needing to look through several separate books to find out anything useful - though she still used some of these to find out more information for her own book. All of this was done with Lily at her side. After a few years of observing, sketching, researching and writing, Leaquina felt like she had enough information to publish a book on her findings.
And that's where she was now: five books in her series entitled "A Songbird's Guide to Birds" (she never had been very good at naming things) and she was still going strong. She had moved around the country to find out what different birds lived where, dedicating each book to a different area of the country, with Lily following her everywhere.
