Lillithe the Siren

"Think this could be a good one?" one of the others asked, looking her way as she approached. The bunch of them all grouped together around the door they'd just found. It sealed shut the entrance to a vault, one of many the group had discovered over the last few months. In a few moments they would bust it open, however.

And Lillithe sure hoped it was a good one, or else they were going to be in trouble.

The planet well, really, the universe seemed to be in the midst of chaos. The people that once populated it were nearly extinct, replaced by gruesome monsters, horrifically mutated beings that were once humanoid, and thieving bandits who'd gut you and rob you of every cent to your name all in one swift motion. Even the government power in control of things was shadowy, dangerous. None of them were to be trusted.

But they could all possibly be behind every single door Lillithe and her crew encountered.

That was the risk you took as a vault hunter on Pandora, though. And it was a risk she and her group had to take they had no real choice in the matter. Too much like the entire universe, for instance was in danger of being lost if they turned tail and ran home, if they failed in their desperate search for the eridium that everyone was going crazy for.

They needed that alien substance on the right side of things nearly as much as they needed food to survive. Very few understood what eridium was, what it was truly meant for, and how it was supposed to really be used, and those who did had not yet spoken up. All anyone really knew was that, in the right hands, it could potentially grant amazing powers beyond anything anyone could've ever expected.

But in the wrong hands it was destructive, terrifying. It turned people into terrible experiments, ghosts of their former selves with no likeness to the being they once were whatsoever. And it would grant whoever owned it complete and total control of the universe and everyone who resided within it.

It was vital that the vault hunters found this substance before the rotten ones did.

Lillithe took a deep, silent breath inward, disguising it as much as she could from her associates. It was best not to let them see her worry. They looked toward her for direction, for the okay to go ahead. And if she was shaking in her boots at the possibilities awaiting them, at the fate they were possibly about to walk into, there would be no way she'd get them to go inside.

"Could be a good one. We'll find out soon," she said, stepping up to press her hand against the solid surface of the door. It was cool and made of stone, and her fingertips felt the smoothed, chiseled surface through her gloves. She had to get a feel for it to determine which device was best used to knock the thing open.

At her feet was a bag she and her team carried with them on their hunts, and she bent to reach inside of it, a clear picture in mind of what she needed now. The sack was filled with various tools, weapons, anything they had needed in the past and may need in the future to gain access into a vault. Some vaults were simple to break open, but others were more difficult, and even more than that ended up being booby-trapped. She'd nearly lost her head once or twice before, and this bag was crucial in preventing that from actually happening.

For now she grabbed a grenade.

Her fingers wrapped around it, and she pulled it out of the bag before tossing the sack to a male at her left. "Hold onto that," she said, turning back to the door in front of them all. "We're going to blast the door open. Get ready to run for a distance when I place it."

The seconds ticked by as she bent down. The plug was pulled from the grenade, and she placed it at the base of the door, down on the ground. Then she turned, waved her hands wildly and signaled the others to follow her as she took off, creating an energy field around them that would shield them from the explosion that would happen in only moments.

It was a tough life to live. It was a hard job to have. The planet, the universe, depended on them. But Lillithe was okay with that, and she was going to try her damnedest to find all of the vaults, or she'd die trying.
