Marshmallow had always been proud of his baked goods. He took special care with preparing them, making sure everything looked and tasted marvelous. His customers raved about the light-as-air cupcakes and cookies filled with chocolaty chips.

Yes, Marshmallow had good reason to be proud of his baking skills.. Until the infections began.

It started with people getting sick. Nothing unheard of, just flu-like symptoms at first. That was followed by strange rashes and decomposing body parts. Then, it progressed into violent behavior. People were literally ripping each other to shreds.

Marshmallow had been very careful to stay inside his bakery as much as possible, but he suspected he was infected too. One of his eyes was starting to look a little gray. He pondered who might have bitten him. He hadn't been in direct contact with any people, but he'd heard little rodent feet runing around recently. Perhaps one of them had grown tired of breaking into the baking ingredients.

Marshmallow continued each day just as before, except he didn't have customers. He baked as much as ever, despite the fact that chunks of his body sometimes ended up in the food. Over time, it became easier to ignore the bits of bone nestled atop dollops of frosting. He ate each dessert by himself, quite happily. In fact, he could barely remember how food tasted before the plague started.

Eventually, people started coming into the bakery again. Much to Marshmallow's surprise, people loved his confections just the way they were. No one complained about the new flavors or the strange textures. Yes, a lot of things had changed, but Marshmallow was still proud of his baked goods.
