It was hot.
Well, that's not strange considering I had made my home in a desert, but it was exceptionally hot today that even my sweat seemed to evaporate quickly off of my skin. "Bad for business" is I'd imagine my pa would've said as he'd load his wares into our old dingy wagon to sell in the closest town.
Hmph, more like bad for health. Poor pa suffered from a heat stroke and passed not too long after.
Wonder what he would have thought of me now...
Not that there was time to really ponder that as I continued my ascent up the narrow stone staircase of the tower. It spiraled almost forever upwards, the goal obstructed by shadows that gave no hint as to what lay at the top. But I didn't need vision to know what lay at the top since I made this trek quite often almost every month. My pack bulged with_ a-hem, borrowed goods, the echos of their merry jingling my only company.
