Naja was born to an incubus father and a human mother, her father being the king of a country known as Khalyra and her mother having married him so there was no worry about him taking advantage of her for power given his species. Her born name was also Mela, not Naja.

As the only child of the royalty Naja was expected to behave a certain way. She was to be educated in how to run the country and other endeavors, and while a certain amount of promiscuity was expected given that she was born a succubus Naja always wanted to take things too far. After all she had no desire to be a princess, and instead wanted to chase a far more exciting life. Her bedfellows were often those who adventured, especially anyone from the Laganoon Wardens as she longed to hear tales of monster hunting and the things that had been seen and experienced outside of her relatively small kingdom located so far to the north and otherwise isolated.

Despite obviously wanting to be an adventurer her parents disapproved and Naja got into a lot of trouble as she grew older. At sixteen she decided she'd had enough and shortly after her birthday she packed her things and left in the night. A week's ride south was a village that had a local chapter of the Laganoon Wardens and Naja was quick to join them. Though she wasn't the greatest she did have combat training and her proficiency with making and using explosives came in very handy for quite a few endeavors over time. Within four years the local chapter sent her to the headquarters of the Wardens, located on the back of a giant turtle that sailed through the seas.

Assigned to headquarters meant being assigned some partners as well, among them being the human woman who simply called herself Baguette. She became something of the sister that Naja never had as they ran a few jobs together with other people, Baguette being the only consistent element at that time in her life. Eventually, however, Khalyra was calling for aid from anyone they could reach out to. Sophia, head of the Wardens, knew everything about everyone who served under her and knew Naja was the princess and heir to this kingdom. Not really knowing what was going on because the messages coming through were pretty scattered and broken she asked Naja and Baguette to head back there and see what was going on. Despite her reservations, and having vowed to never go back, Naja agreed - but only after making it very clear to Sophia she was doing this because the guild was asking it of her, not because she had any ties to the kingdom, her parents, or anything else.

Arrival was easy, as Naja knew the sigils to teleport from the main area of the Warden headquarters to the castle. Upon arriving a few things were made blatantly clear; the kingdom was under siege, and while people could get in via sigil teleportation something blocked them from using those circles to get out and the actual armies surrounding the main castle prevented physical leaving even by air. Naja's mother had died somewhere in those few years she had been gone and her father, while happy to see her, was clearly very ill. Something wasn't right because both of her parents had been in good health when she left, and it was soon also clear that the army besieging the castle was the cause of this as many were some form of dead or undead creature carrying infections that was spreading fast and the remaining people had no means to treat while they were stuck in the castle.

The army could not be defeated, even by Naja and her companions. But combining her magical power with her father's she was able to overcome the magic blocking teleportation out and he could maintain it on his own once the barrier was broken. Naja wanted to evacuate the remaining civilians and guards before the castle fell, as she held no ill will towards any of them. Something in her took command then, despite what she'd been running from all her life, and she wanted to stay behind to make sure everyone could evacuate. But her father knew that was a bad idea and knocked her unconscious, making Baguette carry her through back to the Warden headquarters. He evacuated as many others as he could and then stayed behind to give the stragglers and guards a chance to go while he fought off the invaders.

Waking to find her father was also dead and her kingdom overrun, Naja went into a downward spiral of drinking and taking a new bed partner every night she could manage it to lose herself. But there were bigger things brewing, as the army that had attacked was just one small part of a larger plot that put the world in danger. An entity from another dimension was looking to come into theirs and destroy everything, and the Wardens were the only ones with enough power to do anything about it. A dragonborn named Throthgar White-Fang was assigned to the party as well as a human who simply went by Moose, and they had to head off together to gain support for the cause.

Naja's noble upbringing came in handy gaining them one kingdom, but it was the desert kingdom of Jalar that proved the most challenging to them. The king was missing and the former guard captain was run ragged trying to keep up the day to day operations. As it turned out the current king did not respect the kingdom that had existed before the current one and its leaders were ancient beings who had turned on him. They had also killed him, making things much more difficult. But the loss of both parents and her kingdom had awoken something in Naja and she convinced the captain of the guard to help her butter up to the nobility in Jalar. With a bit of sucking up they agreed to allow her to be the new queen; she had some right by her blood, the proper upbringing, and clearly the ability to know whose butts she needed to kiss to get places.

While Baguette led Throthgar, Moose and others into battle Naja got Jalar back in proper order and mustered their army to fight. She also called to other kingdoms for aid using her new station, and while she could not be on the front lines of battle she played and served an important role in the whole thing. The entity was, eventually, defeated but not without cost. Somewhere along the way Moose had become possessed by a very powerful being and in the aftermath of the fight attempted to kill Throthgar and Baguette, forcing the pair to retaliate. They were able to defeat him in a temporary manner but neither knew enough about demons to deal with him for good. While Baguette returned to Naja to recuperate from the loss of friends and loved ones and the horrors of war Throthgar began to travel, seeking the knowledge to deal with Moose once and for all.

In that time Naja gave birth to a child, a daughter she named Indris who was clearly Throthgar's daughter too. They had slept together shortly after Throthgar was introduced to the party while Naja was still reeling from her father's death and not making the smartest of choices. But Naja thought this to be fate of some time, for what were the chances her first pregnancy would come at a time when she had put herself out of harm's way for a change? So she tried to reach out to Throthgar, but he had left the Wardens to search for knowledge and they no longer had a way to reach him. He did write back once to explain, but that was all the contact Naja had from him.

As Indris grew she began to have questions Naja just couldn't answer when it came to Throthgar. She hadn't known him long or known much about him, and with his disappearance she had nothing to tell her daughter. So Indris got it in her head if she could learn to hunt demons too maybe one day she would run into her father and get all her questions answered. Naja did not want to raise Indris as she had been raised and knew that denying the girl what she wanted would just make her chase it anyway in a manner that would potentially be very unsafe. Naja reached out, finding a tutor for Indris and sending her off for proper training on how to deal with demons and the like.

Naja was alone for a while as Indris was off searching for her father until, surprisingly, Throthgar came home. He was done with his primary mission and was able to return. When they were done making up for lost time Naja reached out to Indris, and eventually she too came home to meet her father at long last. But neither Indris nor Throthgar were content to sit around, they had the adventuring bug to some degree and wanted to be out exploring the world, having nothing to tie them down like Naja's obligation to be queen.

In time Naja gave birth to a second daughter, named Dimira. She came out more like her mother, however, looking human to an extent but clearly a succubus unlike her older dragonborn sister. So Naja busied herself raising Dimira while Indris and Throthgar were gone, and is doing her best to simply hold together until her family can be truly together.

Story (and linked stories to Ao3) written by me

Based on a Dungeons and Dragons character I played for a campaign that used the succubus homebrew race, a multiclass alchemist and parasite pact warlock for class, and the official noble background.

This campaign came to a full close and her story is finished. The ideas behind the Laganoon Wardens and Sophia belong to my friend Z00T, Baguette belongs to my friend Kotatoes, and Throthgar belongs to my friend Stuffins. Indris is mine, but made as the child of Naja and Throthgar with permission and all characters, ideas and places were mentioned here with permission from the aforementioned respectful copyright holders (none of them are on Subeta, however).
