High in the Io Mountains, constantly covered in snow, harsh winds and 8 months of pure blizzard weather, a cavern lay alone on the highest peak holding a deep dark secret. Beneath the labyrinth of ice pillars, stalactites and stalagmites, a great power lay encased in a enormous pillar of ice- to keep it safe from the world so no harm could ever be caused to the world again.

The stories are told of a great evil that once spread and nearly consumed the whole world. The evil was wielded from a creature with power that could only be tamed from the animal in which it resides- a great Night Mare. The legendary horse was spoken of as being as a wild and could only be tamed by one individual. This happened to be a very dark minded individual who wanted nothing but to destroy. A great council was held then in the High City amid the tyranny to find a way to end it all. Three warriors with great power of their own were sent to fight the Rider and destroy the power that threatened to consume their life as they knew it.

So a great battle ensued. The Rider knew how to use the Night Mare to his advantage and fought the warriors with all his might, the battle lasted for days and many thought that the Rider would overcome and all would be doomed. But the warriors finally defeated the Rider, removing him from the Night Mare, a spear piercing through his heart. The Night Mare was then brought back to the High City to the great Council to decide its fate. It was decided then that the powerful equine would be destroyed as well.

But soon it was discovered it could not be killed. The creatures powers kept it from having its life taken save the Rider should destroy it. So an alternative was decided and the Night Mare was encased deep in the ice cavern of Miro Peak and guardian was set to guard it- ensuring that the dangerous power would never be wielded again.

The village of Io at the base of the mountains were sanctioned to watch over the cavern, setting one guardian to be passed on through the generations- lineage sent down from the warriors whose spear pierced the heart of the Rider and brought peace again to the land.

And so it was, Raiiza became next in line of great warriors and guardians to protect what was deep within the cavern. The full story of what it was lost over time- distorted with no sure truth of what was actually hidden within. But even then, the guardians knew it was important to keep it safe- to keep it guarded and to make sure it never had another Rider again.

Regardless of this duty brought upon each son of the guardian before him- he was given one week- during the Thaw- to enjoy time with family, friends, rejuvenate and rebuild themselves during the village festival. Though a vulnerable time to be away, a weeks time had never yielded any problems before and if any dared to climb the treacherous peak- they would most likely be lost within the deep ice maze.

Though with his new third full year within the cavern, now truly a man- Rai prepares to descend the mountain during the Thaw and enjoy the festival and hope nothing will go wrong....
