“Let me in.” Clarisa says, tone indicating she expected Ray to listen. Ray stares at his older sister for a moment before moving aside to let her into his apartment.
“Make yourself at home.” He mutters sarcastically, and Clarisa merely snorts as she steps inside. Ray closes the door behind him.
“It’s clean.” She observes, setting her purse down on the couch.
“Unlike some people I know, I don’t like messes very much.” Clarisa ignores the jab, noticing her brother had gotten yet another computer monitor.
“Why do you need three of those?”
“So I can multitask, duh. Let's cut the bullshit Clarisa, why are you here?” He asks, getting straight to the point.
“I talked to father.” She says, turning towards him. He snorts.
“Not civilly, I’m sure.”
“Blood was shed.” She admits, not looking very guilty, “But that’s not the point. We both agreed that you need to go back to school.” Ray blinks.
“Uh…why?”
“So you can get a real job. You barely graduated High School, so you don’t have the grades for a traditional university, but you could at least start at a community…” She trails off, realizing Ray had stopped listening and was paying attention to one of the monitors. “Raymundo.” She hisses and he shifts his gaze back towards her with a sheepish smile.

“Sorry, we’re trying to launch in Asia so-“
“I don’t care.” Ray’s face falls.
“Right.” Silence falls between them and Clarisa finally sighs.
“Your life is short.” She bluntly states and Ray winces. “We just want you to live a good human life.”
“Like my mom?” He grumbles and Clarisa’s eyes narrow.
“It was her own fault. Thinking she could offer her only child to father as a way to escape her inevitable death? How foolish.” Ray doesn’t say anything so Clarisa continues. “You’re lucky you didn’t die alongside her and that he decided to raise you.”
“Lucky. Right.”
“You left a poor family in El Salvador to live a lavish life in the United States. Why you complain so much is beyond me.” She rolls her eyes.
“You’re one to talk.”
“I am taking over the family business as his only blood child should!” She snaps and Ray jerks back in surprise. “Father is a fool to disapprove.”
“I know, I know. Look Clarisa, I don’t really want to have this conversation again. I’m not going back to school, what I’m doing helps a lot of people and-” Clarisa barks a laugh and Ray immediately shuts his mouth.
“A food delivery service doesn’t help anyone.” He bites his tongue to prevent himself from stating why, in fact, it did help others, but he doesn’t want to fight his sister.

He’s too tired to do this right now.

“Whatever.” He mumbles and they fall silent once again.
“You’re a terrible host.” She sniffs, “You haven’t even offered me anything to drink.”
“Oh shi- Sorry, do you want some lengua? I recently got some.” She gives him a look and he smiles. “Not an animal, I promise.”
“Hmm, then yes. Is it in the fridge? I can get it mys-” A loud thump interrupts her, but Ray doesn’t seem fazed by the sound. “What was…?”
“Probably the neighbors again. I swear they’re like rabbits.” Clarisa immediately understands and disgust flickers across her face. “Yeah, you and me both.” She merely shakes her head and walks off to the kitchen, moments later returning, nibbling on a very human looking tongue.
“You sure this is human?” She asks, blood running down her chin. He shrugs and looks away, stomach churning at the thought of consuming human flesh.
“I’m not really sure, one of our regulars sent it to us as a thank you a few days ago. I figured I’d give it to someone else.”
“Good thing I came over then.” She wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, careful to not smudge her lipstick. “It’s almost the same taste, probably just not fresh like I’m used to.” She finishes her snack with a smack of her lips and Ray is grateful he doesn’t have to look anymore. Clarisa glances down at her watch. “I suppose I’ve said all I wanted to say today, I should get going.”
“So soon?” He asks. They both ignore the thump against the wall that follows his question.
“I have work anyway.” She glances at his monitors again and her eyes darken. “Just consider what I said.”
“I will.” He’s lying through his teeth, but Clarisa doesn’t seem to notice, now looking rather pleased. He walks her back to the entrance and she kisses both his cheeks before stepping out.

“Te quiero hermanito.”
“Love you too sis.”
He closes the door and stares at the knob in his hand for a few minutes.

She was definitely gone by now.

He turns around with an animalistic snarl, storming through his apartment. He opens one of his desk drawers and pulls out a knife, twirling it through his fingers. He goes down the hall leading towards his bedroom and slams open the hall closet. A muffled whimper makes him look down to see a bound and gagged man staring at him with tears in his eyes.

“You motherfucker.” Ray growls, dragging the man by his feet out into the hallway. “I almost got caught. Did you think you were slick, making so much noise?” He jabs the knife into the man’s thighs, the scream barely heard through the cloth stuffed in the man’s mouth. “Did you think that I was too stupid to think of how to explain the noise?” Another stab. “What? Just because I’m human I can’t take care of a fae like you?” He slices one of the man’s fingers off with practiced ease and Ray’s impressed he hasn’t passed out yet.

“You supernatural beings are all the same, thinking you’re all better than me.” Ray smiles sharply as he looks down at the quivering fae.
“I’m almost sad I cut out your tongue, I wonder what you want to say to me.” He kneels down, “Maybe you’ll praise me. You know, getting a large database of murderous beings like you wasn’t very easy.” He gently pats the fae’s cheek, laughing at a tear that runs down his fingers.

“My app? It’s going to change the world.”
