A pale-coloured demi shuffles up and down the aisles of the grand old library. Long ago, its massive walls were home to many of his kind, but now the small single-horned felid seems to be the last of the librarians. You step on a creaky floorboard and the demi's ears twitch as he whirls around.

"Oh!" He nearly drops the stack of books in his arms. "We don't have guests very often anymore."

'We?' You almost begin to ask but a shadow falls over your shoulder. In reflex, you duck and look up to see a pymgy owl soar silently through the air, landing on the demi's shoulder.

"Don't be afraid. This is Darling." The little owl cocks its head to the side. "She keeps me company." Then the demi sat his books on a nearby stack, wiping his dusty paws on his frock. "And my name is Reamus. But my friends...well, they used to call me Ream."

You smile, the pun not lost on you.

"Yes, it's a nickname because of the books," his cheeks gain a touch of color. "I've never been able to keep my nose out of them." Shyly, he reaches out a hand, and you shake, amicably. "I can only guess you're here for a reason. How can I assist you?"

---

"There is a dangerous force that I must defeat. I need a guide to weapons and the secret art of scroll-making."

"I've come to learn about the various species of pets that inhabit Subeta."

"I want to know about you!"

---

"Me?" Ream blinks in surprise. "I'm not the least bit interesting..."

You stress to the demi that you are indeed interested. After all, he's the last of his kind.

"That is true," Ream mutters, somewhat sadly. "When I was young, our library teemed with activity. Pages and stewards looked after the grounds and the manuscripts. Senior librarians saw to the training of young hopefuls like myself who had ventured far from home with the dream of one day proving themselves worthy to serve as vessels of knowledge, like their predecessors."

As gently as possible, you ask what happened.

With a sigh, the little librarian glances around but his gaze seems to be looking past the shelves and books. The look on his face is distant.
