Ren and Xen by
grimRen's empowerment is the envy of overworked and overstressed people around the world. His ability presenteditself in his early teens, first in the form of extra fingers and toes and eventually as complete clones of himself.The doubles had his voice, his scent... his every memory. At first his family attempted to keep them hidden; even consideredshipping some of them off the far corners of the Earth, but the emotional attachment the clones had to Ren's parents madethis difficult, despite that the feelings weren't reciprocated. The solution came in the form of an 'accident', when one of the doubles was found dead and a close friend of the family offered them use of his crematorium without question, charge or record. Fueled by desperation, Ren's family quickly disposed of theother clones, relieved to finally be rid of the dangers that threatened to expose their only son as empowered. Things were relativelyuncomplicated (though perhaps highly immoral) for a while until one night Ren awoke from a fever to stare back at eyes that were and were not his own.Previously it was always believed that the doubles were just that; exact replicas that were incapable of being different. Yet where Ren had the ears and tail of a Twilight Manchu, the twin had the features of an Arid one. His memories included onlythe most prominent of Ren's and his personality and mannerisms proved different as well. Unlike his family, the teen didn't wantto see this new twin disappear, so he left with him instead. The double (whom Ren dubbed "X-en" ), showed the same affinity and talent for technology as his 'brother' and together the pair took a series of sometimes very short-termed jobs until they were eventually discovered and hired by the don of the city's most prominent mafia family. Also much like cells, this process isn't perfect and mutations are capable of happening. This event has only happened once, and a non-identical twin named "Xen" was formed instead of the usual clone.
