History

The first thing he remembered when he opened his eyes was darkness, all around him, suffocating him. Panicking, the young snake struggled in the tight area, trying to free himself when he heard a soft tapping. It stilled his panic as light started to trickle in, making the young male blink. He pushed himself towards the light, his small body igniting in flames as he broke free of the hard egg shell.

He realized two things then. His name and that he had wings, damp frail things that started to stretch and move in the slight breeze.

Resi.

Born of flames, he lay there, breathing the salty air for the first time. That's when he saw her, before anything else, he saw a young brown serpenth of blue sails staring at him curiously. Yes, he knew who she was without a spoken word between them.

Nivi. Sister.

Yes, they were as different as well, fire and water, but she wished to stay with him. The concept of family was something he wanted to try for her sake, it seemed to mean so much to the female. So from that day on, a bond was formed.

They each found their fondness for the different elements, his sister the water... and he, he found the air. While he teased his sister about her unfounded fear of the oceans, he found delight in his growing wings. The day he discovered he could truly master the sky was both terrifying and thrilling all at once. It was the one thing he had that she didn't and he silently swore he would become stronger, that he would prove to her that he was capable of taking care of himself too. Many afternoons saw the two playing tag along the deep river-ways that snaked their way through the adjacent forests that led away from the sandy bay.

One day, he felt something drop over his neck. Using one wing to lift the trinket into view, he turned, tipping his head at his sister.

"What is this sister?"

"So we never forget each other."

"You're - You're not leaving me are you?"

"No, I promise... I'll always be here to protect you."

But over time, he began to resent his sister's kindness. His sister was larger, stronger, her body made for pushing through the thick water. While his body was thin, delicate to ease the burden on his wings. Nivi felt responsible for him... that she had to be the one to take care of him. Was that why she stayed, did she pity him? And like poison, his secert thoughts began to hold sway over the serpenth.

It was quiet by accident that the young male found out why he delighted in the hot dry temperatures. The long drought that had swept across the beach lands happened to triggered it, he saw sparks ignite from his body as he rustled along the dry foliage. Frightened, he had stamped the tiny embers out. But there was no storm, no lightening... the sparks had come from him.

To his sister's dismay, he found himself spending more time by himself, curious about this new power, this ability he seemed to have.The winged serpent never noticed the wild light that danced around him, nor Nivi's growing concern. He had become obsessed. When he was ready to show his sister what he could do, he called to her.

"Sister, sister, come look!"

He sat coiled by the small fire, his smile growing as she approached it. It had taken weeks to train the little flame to do what he wanted, but he wanted Nivi to see it first. He stared on in shock as no word of praise escaped the female's mouth, she was killing his creation.

"Why did you do that?"

"Are you mad?" she had stared at him in horror when she spoke, "You could have started a wildfire. Brother, it's ok, we'll fix this."

"Why can't you understand?" he hissed softly, "....I don't want to fix it."

"This isn't right, this is dangerous..."

He turned and took wing before she could finish, his pride hurt when he saw the fear in Nivi's eyes. She had been... afraid. Days became weeks but he refused to return, not until he proved to his sister that it was a gift, not a curse. Damn her, why couldn't she understand? Was he not strong enough in her eyes to control his own gift? So, he stayed away, developing the skill, and in return, it slowly devoured him of his common sense.

Burn, let it all burn! By the time she came for him, orange light had flooded through the trees, its fiery tongues licking up bark and leaving scorched death in its wake. He sat watching it from the flames shadows, coiled up upon his own girth.

"Resi!" He turned as his name was called, the female serpenth pulling herself along with fanciful twists of her elongated body. "Brother, what are you doing?!"

"Sister!" Resi greeted her warmly, flicking one golden eye in her direction, "Have you finally grown bold enough to come to see what I can do?"

"Stop this! This is wrong, you're killing everything!" Nivi cried out.

"That's right... I am..." he smiled, sending shivers down her spine. A single flick of his great wings caused the air to alight with cinders.

She recoiled as if struck, watching as a smile grew on her brothers face, "Then.... I have no choice...."

To Resi's surprise, he felt pain spill out across his back, between the shoulders. He cried out as he realized its source. He stared at the creature he had known all his life in confusion, her barbs covered in his blood. She had attacked him! His own sister... had tried to kill him?! There was no time, she was coming again but he would be ready this time. His red scales became alive with heat as he wrapped himself tightly around his would be killer, the burnt out cleaning becoming a withering mass of bodies.

He felt his body trembling from holding her, she was still stronger then he was. When she sank her teeth into his wing, fresh pain spilling up his shoulders, he had to let go. The winded snake called the flames to him, creating a wall as he coiled backwards.

"You promised, you promised to protect me!" he screamed, taking to the air where she could not follow, "I won't forget it, mark my words, I'll be back to finish this!"

He staggered in the air but nothing but hate filled his broken heart. He had only wanted to prove he was.... worthy. With rage taking its place firmly in his heart, he set the rest of the forest into a heated blaze. Let her run to the one place she feared and stay there.... until he was ready.

Resi escaped that day but the pain quickly turned into rage, the fire eating away any love he had left for his sister. He constructed armor for himself over time, he would not be caught off guard again. He would return the favor when he found her and Nivi would pay for her betrayal.

Personality: Pompous, conceited and consumed by his own powers, there is little he fears. Moths are attracted by the light he gives off, no matter how many parish from their ill-love, they keep coming. The few who survive, Resi keeps around for company. Thou he'd be the first one to deny talking to the little creatures if anyone dared ask him.
