I found a new book today. The bookstore rarely has any first editions - this town is too small for it to be considered profitable to stock many - but today it had one. Original Vonnegut. Pristine condition, it's so beautiful I could cry. Apparently some mysterious older gentleman passed through and needed to sell the thing for a quick buck, can you imagine? My heart goes out to anyone who would have to part with such a lovely bit of literary history just to make ends meet. The world is a strange, and not always happy place. I hope the funds did him well. The book will certainly do my heart well, and I hope it would make him glad to know it will be well looked after and cherished.

I went to the library today. They had a new shipment of books in today, and I volunteered to sort and catalogue them. There's something soothing about the work, putting each book in its place just feels like I'm bringing order to the world. Books are so much easier to understand than people. Volunteering has other perks, too. Volunteers get first dibs on checking out the new books, and we get first dibs on which of the comfortable chairs scattered throughout the library they get to curl up in for the day. My favorite is an old antique armchair in the very back corner, where the light is good and the place is so quiet you could hear a pin drop. That's where I'm sitting now. Once I'm done sorting all the books I think I may read a couple and see if I can fit in a short nap. I really need to stop staying up so late reading every night!
