Starflare, the lowly apprentice mage that tries her very best. The one that did what the Arch Mage instructed and yet somehow. SOMEHOW we ended up here. In a zombie filled waste land. A white mage that cannot heal zombie bites. I have been rendered utterly useless.

Not that Master Anzu seems to mind. She appears to be enjoying this sick survival game that has become our twisted reality over the last few weeks. Always running around, smashing in the undead, scavenging for food. This entire thing seems like a dream come true for her. Me on the other hand, I would really like to finish up this quest, and get back to a normal life without zombies.

Now I know what you are thinking. Star, how did you end up in a zombie filled waste land? When did this start and why?

For that, we will have to take a trip in time. Back about three weeks ago. Before I helped the would be hero of Bastion, mess everything up. Back when out lovely little country was a Utopia. Everything was good, there was no war, no famine, everyone was seemed happy!

I lived in the Mage Tower, just outside the capital of Bastion. There I had resided since I was only six years old. My family had sold me off for a hefty some of money after finding out that I could do magic. Once there, I was passed around a few different masters before ending up under Anzu. Back then, she wasn't the Arch Mage and Master of the Tower yet. She was just a High Mage with great abilities. I was happy at first, I finally found someone that would teach me!

Of course, it wasn't easy. Anzu would constantly ask me for my proper name. To this day she doesn't believe me that my name is Starflare. Often saying "What mother would name her child that?" I would then roll my eyes, thinking of my sisters Starsuka and Novamile. At least mine was tame in comparison!

After some time, I developed into a proper white mage! My healing was on par with some of the best! I was just shy of being able to pull of a minor resurrection spell! Life was going great! I was due to graduate into a full mage, shedding my apprentice title in a matter of weeks! I would have my full freedom to come and go from the Tower as I pleased!

Then came a request from my Master. I was to help the hero paladin Valyn to retake the capital from an evil Over Lord. The monster had recently killed off the entire royal family, and was working on slaying any who opposed him. So my job was to be the group's healer and retake the kingdom of Bastion! Easy right?

No one told me Valyn was a bit dense for a hero. Being new in the field himself, he was also reckless. He was chased out of the kingdom once prior to us meeting. While in exile, apparently he befriended a Necromancer. There he slowly gained her trust to make this weird looking dagger. I was told this was the means to finally kill the big bad guy and move on with my life!

Well, poor Valyn and I didn't really look into how to use the dagger. We assumed it was just for stabbing after all, I mean it was a dagger. However, to our horror, since we didn't make sure the big bad was actually fully dead, we made a Lich...

Flash forward, we are now here. In the middle of unending hordes of zombies, terrible situations and horrid living conditions. Game play for victory? We are still working on that.

So while I sit here eating my dry twigs and bitter roots, I hope that whomever reads this diary entry is having a better day than I.
