Four hours was an exceedingly long time to draw a magic circle. Lucias was, however, adamant about getting everything perfect. Even though he was done, he was looking over his work a second time. The book had been quite clear on the conjurer being injured, scarred and disfigured should he do something wrong. Teivel wasn't sure what to think of that. He scratched his cheek absently and wondered if his parents would hate him more or less if he'd been born hideous instead of the pale, strangely alluring creature he was.Creature? He crossed his arms and mentally berated himself. What do I even mean by that?
"Okay," Lucias called out excitedly, dragging him back to the present. "I've followed the instructions from the passage. As long as I've translated this correctly, it should work."
"Should," he said, doubts returning. He had no idea if they showed in his expression, but if they did, Lucias wasn't deterred. He watched his friend light the candles placed around the circle.
"Yes. Should." The last candle lit, Lucias stood up and stepped back to admire his work once more. "I wonder if demons like biscuits…"
He rolled his eyes. "Allocer is supposedly a Great Duke of Hell, reigning over thirty-six legions of demons. I don't think he's going to be too bothered if we don't offer him something to eat." He looked at the circle with distaste. "That is, if he even decides to show up."
"What kind of ass is this demon to not show up?"
"The kind that could probably damn us to Hell if he so wished. The grimoire mentioned demons denying summons."
"Well, let's hope he's in a good mood, then."
The disturbing cheer in Lucias's voice subsided– he'd have to enunciate the incantation clearly or they would suffer the consequences. He flipped over to the correct page and began to read.
The words– or the power behind them– made Teivel shiver, nerves rubbed raw. They seemed to resonate in his very bones, and it wasn't a pleasant feeling. When Lucias paused and glanced over at him, however, he grit his teeth and nodded. The ritual continued.
He could feel the incantation coming to an end, although nothing seemed to be happening. Just as he thought that, however, the whole world seemed to start trembling violently.
An earthquake?!
When the words ended and candles were suddenly blown out, he started to panic. Any moment now, the house would collapse, and they wouldn't have a chance to live out the rest of their lives ugly and deformed, because in mere seconds they would be crushed underneath the rubble and–
Slowly, the tremors stopped.
Moments passed by in silence, and he wondered if their spell had ended in failure. Would some unseen force smite them where they stood for attempting to summon a hellish spirit?
One of the candles suddenly flickered back to life, the flame a soft blue. He stared at it in apprehension. What–
He'd barely formed the thought when the inside of the circle suddenly exploded outwards, as if something from the depths of the earth had smashed its way through. The blast sent him flying. He impacted with the wall painfully and fell to the ground.
Stifling a groan, he pushed himself onto his elbows and squinted towards the center of the room. In the dim light cast by the single candle, he thought he could discern a vague shape.
He stared in silence. A quick glance to his side and he saw his friend similarly stunned. Seconds seemed to stretch into minutes. Finally Lucias broke out of their inertia and referred to the grimoire. "Art thou… Allocer?" he asked uncertainly.
Cracks resounded across the room as the shape split open, bright light spilling from the cracks. Something was emerging from the floating mass, cloaked in red and violet flames. Teivel held his breath as it tore free and he got a good look of what it was like, sure that he would remember this moment for the rest of his life.
It was humanoid in stature, and broad. And tall. Really tall. It was probably nine feet tall, from its clawed feet to its spiky head, the large, curved horns almost brushing against the ceiling. Roses didn't have nearly as many thorns as this thing did. Fire danced under its charred skin, making it radiate heat like a kiln. He was certainly glad that the demon's glittering black eyes weren't focused on him.
While he stared in awe (or terror, it was easy to confuse the two), his friend repeated his question. "Are you Allocer?"
The corners of the creature's mouth lifted into a strange sort of smile– at least they looked like they did.
"I am Allocer."
