Violence
noun.
behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.

Pouring himself a bowl of cereal, Jackson brings a hand up to his mouth in an attempt to stifle an incoming yawn. Nails click against the kitchen tile, signaling that Fido was wide awake and probably looking for some food. He glances up at the clock on his microwaves and shakes his head. Nearly three am, much too early for breakfast. "Not yet." Jackson says to the dog now sitting patiently by his feet. "You need to wait until Heydin wakes up."

'No food?'

"No food." He replies with a quiet laugh. He brings his bowl up to eye level and peers at the contents of it with a frown. Sometimes he really missed the sugary crap. Fido shakes as he stands, clearly disappointed he wasn't getting at least a treat, but like the good dog he was, he went off to entertain himself with one of his many toys. Jackson closes his eyes and sighs, leaning back against the counter. "Shit."

Showered and dressed, he's ready to leave a quarter to four, when he hears the bedroom door creak open. Heydin peeks out of the door, rubbing sleep from his eye. "What are you doing up?" Jackson asks, lacing up his police boot.

"I wanted to say goodbye." Heydin yawns, clearly still on the cusp of sleep. "Good luck out there." Jackson straightens and makes his way over to him, pressing a kiss to his temple.

"I'll be fine, no need to worry." He starts to pull away, but Heydin suddenly wraps his arms around his waist and buries his face into his shoulder.

"I mean it." Heydin whispers, "Come back to me." Jackson doesn't say a word for a few moments, before he smiles and returns the hug.

"Always."

He doesn't go to the station right away, instead entering an empty parking lot, where two men leaned against a plate-less car. Jackson shoves his hands into his jacket, his breath visible in the early morning air. "There you are!" The lighter dressed man says, waving his fingers in greeting. "And here we thought you didn't get the message."

"You sent me a picture of my family inside of our own pool, of course I was going to come." The man snickers.

"Family, that's rich."

"Regardless of that," The other, a bearded man, speaks up, dark eyes training on Jackson. "Have you come to accept our offer, Officer Daines?" Jackson shifts his weight, eyes narrowing.

"Doesn't sound like I have much of a choice."

"You don't." The first man says eagerly. Jackson's lips thin with anger before he speaks up once more.

"You promise no harm with come to either of them?" The second man chuckles, and puts his right hand up, his left making an 'x' over his heart.

"Cross my heart. Thief's honor." Jackson looks between the two grinning men and he lowers his shoulders in defeat. If it meant keeping them safe then...

"Okay." He sighs, "I accept your offer."

"Excellent!" The bearded man clasps his hands together loudly, making Jackson wince. "I think you'll find that this partnership will be very beneficial to all of us. Now...I need the a full report on the security details of the upcoming charity ball in City Hall. You have two days, and only two days. Any longer and there will be consequences, understand?"

"I understand."

When he returns home in the late afternoon, he's greeted to a dog barking excitedly to see him, and a smile from the man he knows he would give up everything for.

Unbeknownst to him, that day would approach much faster than he would like...
