Chapter VII
Otter sat in his cell in the castle prison. He had once again been caught sneaking in to steal food. He didn't know why they picked him up every time, after all, it was just a fun game. He might be riff-raff, but he was Charming riff-raff. The kitchen ladies all knew that. Even if they didn't admit it.
The doors clanged, and a group of guards walked in, escorting a tigrean in chains. He wondered what she'd done, especially to have so many guards, maybe he'd ask once the guards left, she'd probably like how Charming he was.
The doors clanged again, and the guards dropped to their knees with a chorus of "Your Majesties" as two regal looking yaherras walked in. The King and Princess, he guessed, although he'd always thought royalty would be more... Glowy. Too bad.
They stood before the tigrean in chains, examining her.
"Assassin, tell us who sent you," said the King.
The tigrean remained silent.
"Oh father, this is pointless," said the Princess. She was awfully pretty, Otter decided. "It was the Council," the Princess continued. "We both know it. You have to pull your head out of the sand, father, or you're going to let the Council destroy our family and the City. It's time for us to fight or they will just send someone else to finish us off. There are enough disgraced Monsters in the Zone to help us, and they will if we just promise them the chance to be real Monsters again."
The King sighed. "I am afraid you may be right, daughter. But this is not the place. We will speak later. Perhaps I will allow Garland to stay for now..."
The two followed the guards as they took the assassin to a cell deeper in the prison. Otter was left alone. He hated being alone. Luckily, he'd already picked the lock to his cell. He got halfway up the stairs leading out of the prison when he heard a familiar cry from his guard down below.
"WHY I OUGHTA--!"
Otter took off at a sprint, cackling.
