Wood is a particularly stoic character. So much, in fact, that no one has ever really heard him utter a word. He doesn't seem to lack the physical capability to talk, but he remains mute all the same. You may hear him tapping agitatedly at his piano keys if you're being terribly loathsome, or you could even be privilege to one of his happier singular concertos. You probably don't want to be around on the days he's angry.
Wood was discovered by the Teashop Crew after a tip-off from one of their regular patrons; he'd seen the silent kanis playing in a seedy bar for the odd meal. The Crew visited said bar, and found the most talented piano player they had ever seen. The speed! The complexity! The talent displayed was rare indeed, and being severely undervalued by drunks and addicts who could never appreciate Wood for what he was, or the new age Jazz kids who wanted to hear nothing but brass and the blues.
They seized on Wood immediately. Telling him only that they needed a talented pianist (it would be unwise to explain their plans in full to a stranger, of course) and would pay him handsomely in both meals AND money, they persuaded the tired musician to return to the tea shop with them.
In the warm confines of the tea shop, after Ragdoll had made Wood a pot of earl grey; the contrast between the exhaustion and sadness of previous months and this sudden change overwhelmed him and he found it difficult to keep his eyes open. Noah showed him to a spare room and Wood slept in a comfortable bed for the first time in a long time, thankfully missing the arguments that ensued downstairs between Noah and Giselle regarding her dislike of Noah bringing the scum of society (both in class AND hygiene!) into the same living arrangement as herself.
The next morning, refreshed and freshly scrubbed, Wood sat with the Teashop Crew as they explained to him what they wanted him to play, and showed him the complex piece of music that they had been unable to read from entirely let alone play at the speed and precision it required. Wood sat and looked at the composition, and studied it for some time, and then put it down, and stood up, glancing about.
"What is it, lad?" Winston questioned. "Are you looking for the piano?"
Wood nodded, and Noah showed him to the instrument. "Oh, but you've left the music on the table, I'll go and get it for you."
Wood stopped him, and shook his head. He then pointed to his mind, and then to his heart, and sat down and played.

Wood acquired Vincent during his days living on the streets. A scruffy mangy dog that other people turned their nose up at was just the kind of dog Wood could relate to. He tempted the puppy with some scraps, gained his trust and now they're inseparable. Vincent often howls along to Wood's music, which might be the reason Wood was never fully appreciated for his talent!
