THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE"You know how genies work? You have to be careful with them. They can grant any wish you make, but they have a tendency to interpret it super literally so that you don't actually get what you wanted.Coding is the exactly like that. Like genies, technology can render true almost anything we can imagine. But we have to be careful how we word our wishes, how we explain to the computer what it is that we want. Even a small mistake in the code could result in a huge error. The entity that calls itself Y2K is a personification of this concept: the computer bugs that arise not out of careless error, but because we literally defined them into existence. Just like the Y2K problem was inherent in the way we chose to represent time. It's not malicious - no, not in the sense you're thinking of. You know that saying that goes, 'Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained...' No? Well, I guess 'stupidity' does seem a little off here. How about... 'Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by ingenuity that failed to account for the full extent of its own consequences.' A tad long and clunky, yeah. It doesn't matter. There is a ghost in the machine of your creation, and it's asking us if we want to play."
