some animal stats.

( notes )
name? i don't have one of those. well, that's not quite right. i'm sure my mother and father gave me one; i just don't remember it anymore, is all. but i do have a number, and i remember my number. 8709. eight seven zero nine. eight thousand seven hundred and nine. that's been my name for the past fifteen years.

---

female. twenty. bunny shifter who was taken by scientists for testing; excited about the possibility of testing on animals and humans via the same subject. parents were heartbroken and terrified but did their best to hide it, telling her she was going to a very prestigious school for very gifted and special children. she was only five.

born into a society where shifters aren't considered citizens - or even human - such a terrible fate was not uncommon and was not considered an issue of ethics. #8709 became one of many who was used to test hundreds of prescription medications, experimental cures, and forced through dangerous drug trials. between the numbers, the drugs, the jeering, and the isolation - it didn't take long for them to strip her of her humanity.

has since escaped the facility and is considered a fugitive - despite being entirely harmless, she is labeled as 'extremely unstable and an active threat', and her return to the facility is of utmost importance. #8709, who has adopted the name (???) to better integrate into society, must hide her existence from the world. a world where she doesn't belong, where she knows she isn't wanted. she must learn to be human, again.

she has not settled comfortably into her new life, not in the least; having spent so much time in the facility, the outside world is confusing and frightening. humans are not to be trusted, and it's too dangerous to be seen around others like her, lest she give herself away. she feels entirely alone, unsure, afraid. she feels like the young child she was the day they took her away. she suffers from intense, varying side effects from the hundreds of chemicals pumped through her veins, which just make things worse.

on the worst days, she misses the relative safety of the cold glass cells; the company of the other subjects, the stainless white walls, the bland and tasteless food they were served when they weren't doing a fasting experiment. she misses it because it was routine. it was safe. the world outside is not safe. it's not meant for someone like her. on the good days, she is still fragile - still afraid - but she is also free.
