That new carpet Ariel has is going to be the end of me, it's absolutely impossible to brush out slime from all the layers of that blasted tufted design! But please, hurry on in before someone notices you. And for heaven's sake take off your shoes!

I've taken cover in this nook that was carved out by the nice little rat that used to live here. He swore up and down that he chewed out that beautiful hole with his own front teeth, but I can't imagine he did all this work by himself, can you? The craftsmanship is just so particular, I can't make myself believe that this was done on a in such a hurry with no help. Maybe I underestimate the little chap.

Well you're here now, and I think it would be best if you stayed for a while. She's been manically flipping through those papers all day--I think a big test is coming up--I'm surprised she didn't see you. It's too risky for you to leave now. Would you like a snack while you're here? I was just finishing up here and going to have a bite to eat myself. The bread she eats is different than any bread I've had before, but it's still pretty good. Denser, though, much chewier. She's meticulous about having snacks around her house, and I don't think she minds sharing.

What? No! I don't steal. I mean sure, I liberate things she doesn't have use for once in a while. I do feel a little guilty sometimes, but I figure all I'm really doing is cleaning up after her, right? Anything that I acquire beyond that is merely pay for my services, no? I know she wasn't exactly finished with the chunks of pigment I've chipped off from her watercolor palette, but this place would look even more dreary without any art to liven it up! It looks almost like a home now, don't you think? I'm not out to take anything dear to her, I don't wish to live beyond my means, but a slug's gotta do what a slug's gotta do.
