She steadies herself enough to squeeze through the opening and stand up straight. The entrance to the shrine, carved out of a great mountain face, is aglow with fluorescent light, casting deep shadows along the walls and ceiling. A sudden breeze brings the faint scent of tea, floral and sweet.
The eerie green light gives way just before a corner; the cave walls dancing with a hypnotic rhythm, innumerable candles flickering to near darkness and then suddenly, as if life were breathed back into them, blazing bright. The sporadic light draws the traveler in, clutching her tea to her chest in an effort to keep it from spilling. The cave floor is wet and uneven, making her trek even more difficult than she anticipated. The moment she rounds the corner, however, the difficulty of her journey is rewarded; her jaw drops and her eyes widen at the sight of the great room before her.
The ceilings above reach beyond the candle light, no matter how far they flicker and reach upwards. The jagged marks in the walls filling with light and then suddenly empty, dark, add an eerie aspect to the visage. But at the very center of the room, the shrine glows, a beacon to all that enter. The modest carved stone altar, once standing alone, is now obscured by tributes - flowers in varying stages of decomposition, from barely drying out to nearly disintegrated; various vessels of tea, pale greens and dark blacks, a testament to the travels of each person before her; homemade candles, small stubs with barely a wick to speak of to large, thick pillars, some burning and some not - offering her a sense of comfort; of belonging.
She takes a couple steps forward, making sure to avoid the offerings left behind by previous travelers. Kneeling at the altar, she slides aside a small vessel of tea and places her offering gingerly in the space she created. The traveler closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, drawing up a vision of the being that brought her here; Yinzhen.
A sleek fox walks towards her. His fur, rich reds, pinks and purples -a deep ombre from back to belly, then suddenly turning a bright orange- dotted with glimmering stars flows gently, surrounded by a thick black mist of sorts, laden with even more shimmering bright stars. The air below him ripples with every step, the outer edges dissolving into a fine purple mist. The beautiful animal looks at her inquisitively, and cocks his head to the right.
A voice quietly enters her mind, softly reverberating as if it were spoken aloud. "Hello, my child. What brings you to my shrine?" The traveler falters a for a moment, unprepared to hear a voice.
When she opens her eyes, it takes her a moment to realize that the fox in front of her is not inside her mind. The flickering of the candles peek out behind him, the warm light fighting against the deep black and purple shroud behind Yinzhen. He looks at her with the same puzzled look in her vision, and then he winks at her.

lay hidden behind overlapping dogwood branches bent down towards the ground as if bowing to the shrine they protected. The traveler pushes them aside lightly, attempting not to damage the pristine white blossoms that clung so lightly to the bark. Her hand shakes, the small jar of tea sloshing around in her trembling grip, threatening to spill. She steadies herself enough to squeeze through the opening and stand up straight.
