From time immemorial, hunger to mankind you have given,
Destruction of the earth's fruit for bread leaven,
Death is your benefactor,
An omen long interpreted as consequence for ignoring the altar.
You are not to blame; this is not a whim,
Phenomena as such occur as retribution, no matter how grim,
Irresponsible stewards of the earth are we,
A lesson you merely wish to teach before you leave.
Why must you be cursed on and on,
For with negligence and without caution,
Generation after generation never heeded message,
Boiling down to the stigma passed on to us we can only assuage.
Had action been taken, no one had been unprepared,
Test after test, our ability to learn after mistakes had been impaired,
How much more pestilence will it take,
Before man can itself remake?
No, there is no way you are a force of evil,
Misunderstood are you, it is not your intention to spark a battle,
Somewhere, there are those of us thankful for your existence,
Accepting you as penance.
