Survival Update!

We've found some of the bugs plaguing our survival code and resolved them, finally! Any infection you have from this point forward should correctly unlock in your wardrobe when it hits the final stage. Also, any lag in the forums or wardrobe should be fully resolved.

If you've made it to the final stage of an infection already and don't have it, worry not! On the final day of Survival we will allow every user to select one infection from this year that they did not unlock, and unlock it for free. This prevents us from manually replacing the skins, and should hopefully just be a faster process overall, considering the sheer number of people.

As a thank you, we're sending out 250 cash shop credits to everyone who has participated so far in Survival. We'll also be extending Survival by one full day. Thank you 💖!

Sooo how do we get our free skin? Didn't see an option to get one for free at the VIP and i don't see an option to select one for free from the wardrobe either. Maybe they're still working on figuring out how to give the free skin?

Couldn't you unlock the base hairs at the same time as you were unlocking the skins? I've had the same HA for almost two years now because the hair is locked for me so I can't access it, meaning if I change my outfit I will become bald.

I find it a tad annoying as well. One candy heart and then you have a 8-9min wait. I’m having a hard time getting hearts this year. I’m only getting one or two per kiss and I always seem to have long wait times.

I love you all very much but is there any way you could make the 10min wait times less?
Getting one-three candy every ten minutes is so...hard. Even halved it would be so much nicer ;;?
I have bad health I cannot think to be on the computer nonstop setting timers for 10m each.
Even if you just halved the wait time I'd be grateful, as would I'm sure many others. Or maybe up the number going out per kiss.
I really do appreciate all the work on other stuff and free csc. Just trying to put a comment in bc its a LONG wait (only 6 kisses an hour...boo)

@SolusAurora this is why you can click staff forum posts on the right side of the news page and see anything the staff has said on the forums. Whenever there's a new issue, I always check there first/periodically over the next day or so. Like, I noticed my skin had disappeared at about 10am on Wednesday when I got on, and there was an instruction from Keith on there at ~noon the same day to go ahead and sign up for a new strain and they'd figure out how to award the interrupted strains later. So I found the problem at my morning break, and had a solution by lunch break. Seems amazing to me! :D

And thank you staff for the extras, I appreciate ya'll being so proactive about it all!

Thank you for all the work that is put into this... especially with RL challenges. Coding is NOT easy... trying to find an or several issues is even worse. It's normal for old codes to cause chaos once in a while... plus, it's Survival; we're all going to get through it. This seems more than generous, and any pushback I might otherwise somewhat agree with (what with some getting a free skin due to a narrow window) I think is mitigated by the fact that the strain progression is so much faster!

I'm a little concerned about how this might affect the pool of biters for the new strains. Has anyone noticed a more lengthy wait for bite-based progression for the new strains?

@Luck We'll be opening it on the last day, and it'll be open past that. I just want to keep it as simple as possible, and don't want the danger of someone accidentally choosing a skin, or wishing they chose a different one, etc.

Because I lost a good 20 hours when I was stuck in a mature skin and couldn't take it off to get infected.

@Keith - Oh, it doesn't, I'm just a little sad that I can't have the strain I should have unlocked two days ago until the end, I want to help spread the infections around. I feel like I've wasted two days of precious survival time on that first strain for no good reason, could have unlocked an older skin in that time or something.

I am glad the lag is fixed, and the forums are working, and if free skin for everyone later and not getting my skin right away is the trade off for that, then that's how it's got to be. I'd rather the forums be working, than an extra skin in my wardrobe that I am unlikely to wear outside of survival.

One small question though. Is there any reason why it has to be the final day of survival and not... now? (or sooner rather than later) Having it open for only one day and not for the rest of survival makes me feel bad for anyone who might not be on that day.

Awww, now I have to wait longer to get my Queasea strain, and I've been trying to avoid looking at it in full until I have it.
