New Challenger: Bewitched Bookcase

If you subscribe to Subeta at a Quester or higher tier, you will have access to this new challenger!

This bewitched challenger works differently than your typical challenger. The difficulty changes drastically as you get in more wins against this haunted foe. Its special loot is given out at different amounts of wins instead of the usual 5 & 10 wins. You'll surely be well read after defeating this spooky adversary.

If you start a new subscription (or wait a month) it'll automatically be added to your account. However, if you already have a subscription and visit the Battle Coliseum you should get an event unlocking the challenger.

My initial reaction was disappointment like "oh not you too, I don't want this site to be pay to win, what does this mean for the site's future? Is this going to escalate?"

But then I realised that I was probably feeling that way because we're spoilt by how much is free on here. I'm broke and have never spent anything on this site (I buy all my csc with sp), and have so far felt like I have access to pretty much everything except this. But if that way of running the site is not making enough money for you guys to pay for servers and rent, then ok fair enough, do what you gotta do. Thanks for being so transparent about it.

Is it only giving out books from the Book Nook or from other shops as well??

THANK YOU for this challenger! I am still a newbie to battling, only been battling a little over a year, as I never cared for it before. And while I have T10/11 pets, I am still learning which weapon sets work for me. I have really enjoyed this challenger, as it has allowed me to play around with more scrolls, weapons, and such! I am sorry so many seem unhappy, but this is one gal who appreciates all you are doing to keep your user base happy, and bring some new things in. I still don't understand a lot about battling, and couldn't care less about being the best at it. I just want to have fun doing it, and I am. Thank you! :heart:

Feedback after a couple days of trying it out.

Positive:
I like the mechanics and scaling.
I love older unobtainable/difficult to obtain items being given out (helping prices drop and/or actual collections.
My T8 & T10 pets can both get at least 20 wins, so that's fun (and helps put more of the loot drops into circulation or onto pets for AP).
The way it works is handy for folks who cannot subscribe consistently (imo) because you can sub for a month when you're ready and run through it all.

Negative:
I don't love that the opponent scales heavily the higher you go but that you are dropped down to 10 experience for every win after 10.
I don't love that if you drop your sub, you lose the access - and that we haven't gotten a clear answer yet on if it comes back if you resubscribe.

Neutral:
I don't think this is going to have the consistency impact that Subeta is looking for as far as retaining subscribers. I absolutely agree that we need to find real solutions to the issue of people not subscribing/staying subscribed so that the site can have a more functional method of determining monthly income to help with moving forward on improvements, fixes, and new content. I think the feedback is primarily positive here to this but I also think it might be really helpful to bring back a subscription suggestion thread run by staff to take information on what people want to see. I also think the subscriptions need to be fixed so that people can upgrade/downgrade without having to cancel and wait. I also think it would be beneficial to revisit the initially described plan of having different offers within the tiers for people who are not interested in, say, CSC/CWs. I know that is a lot of additional programming but at the very least I absolutely think the upgrade/downgrade situation needs to be fixed as soon as possible. And a feedback/suggestions/ideas for moving the site forward and getting new/retaining older subscribers should be a first stop if the goal is to try to stabilize the incoming funds. This is a neat idea but it's been less than two days and I'm virtually done with it - I have 5 more wins with my T12 that I have to wait on but like....it's not pressing.

StarShadow

Bewitched Bookcase challenges you to a fight in the Battle Coliseum!
Hmm, will have to try this. I like getting a free CSC challenger for a change since I don't pay for the ones that cost. Hope they do this again.
2

smilesnz

I think this is a bit unfair trying to push people into a sub just to gain a Challenger. Surely there is another way you could do this. Not everyone can afford this in the world we are in now. From a battler I'm sad I'm unable to get challenger
2

frederick

Eh, after a couple days of seeing this working, this seems like a pretty solid way to reintroduce old items that are either out of circulation or unaffordable to the economy. It pretty easily expands to other item types just by changing the challenger 'theme', and is accessible to people who have low level pets or don't battle much while still being rewarding to people with capped pets because of the scaling and drops.
9

Kinky

20. 20 battles is the answer for my T8 lol.
0

Kinky

Thank you for the chance to get these books! Almost all of them are on my WL! It's a slog to get through, but it seems to be worth it. It helps to have a healer, but let's see how far I can keep going!
0

Austria

Interesting, I'm curious as to how far I'll get. I half-assedly train my pet but I'm not really a battler. Food-based one for gourmands should be Neverending Salad and Breadsticks. >_>
8

Reaper

@Purge
Okay no problem! I just wanted to verify. Thank you for the information!
1

Purge

@Reaper
The exp is working as intended. We cannot scale the exp up as the challengers difficulty increases unfortunately.
1

Reaper

@Purge @Cranberry
Quick question, as this challenger scales up intentionally differently than typical challengers, should we only be getting 10exp above the 10 wins? I noticed from 11-30 I was only getting 10exp per win and thought I'd ask and Amber is unsure.
0

Amber

Sorry I didn't get back to anyone replying yesterday, I fell asleep at like 5pm my time (8pm subeta) and ... woke up at 6am.

@Chocolate Just reiterating, not all challengers will be via subscriptions. This book pal is really the only one planned.
@indica @BoaConstrictor Indefinitely. If we change it, we'll give plenty of heads up. Like I said earlier, we don't plan on doing a bunch of challengers this way.
@Tomorrow About how this challenger works?
@pointycatears We'll still have Cash Shop Challengers. This isn't replacing them/free counterparts. :)
@Reaper Oh, I'm not sure about that. That's a Purge or Cranberry question (I pretend I know battling but I don't!!)
@Feya If we do eventually retire this challenger, which we do not have any plans to do any time soon, we will give ample warning.

If I missed anyone that ping'd me, please ping me again. Happy to answer questions!

VOLTAGE

Whoa I see this blew up like a dumpster fire.
For the record I am not white, not American, live in south east asia, and would have no problem with buying subscriptions for additional perks.
Do you think it's free to keep a site like subeta running?
17

Marcus

I can see why this would be a useful subscription perk and love the way books are being re-released - thank you!

I also really like Evil's idea of after a certain amount of time, making the Bewitched Bookcase a cash-shop challenger. Perhaps it could be a little more expensive than typical ones because of the way it doles out loot, and the incentive for subscribing is that users get access to certain challengers first. I suppose it depends on how long staff intend on keeping this challenger around, as well as what similar challengers they plan on releasing, if any.

Some users have already mentioned a food-based one for gourmands, which I think is also a great idea. If staff even wanted to stretch this concept out a bit, there are SO MANY food items on the site from different cuisines that there could be more precisely-themed challengers. For example, a haunted food court that doles out fast food-type items, a malfunctioning ice cream truck for desserts/treats, a cursed waiter who brings out gourmet foods, etc.
4

Faizh

How some people here reacts towards this kind of addition make me feel sad, as if Subeta should be a favor just because they play it. It is INSANE to think that the administrators of a free to play site deserves curses and roasting for implementing ONE more perk on subs to shine a little more something that is entirely an OPTION for the players. I think these people are children who lied their ages on register.
18

Diana_Marie

Can we buy subscriptions for other players without sharing our banking info? Maybe instead of the buddy gold thing we could this?
6

Jamileigh17

Ouch he jumps hard in difficulty at 50 wins, lol! I'll have to subscribe again after I hit tier 13, but I really like the flexibility of this opponent. Well worth the $5 to me (and I acknowledge the privilege that lets me sometimes pay for pixels)
2

PeachGoblin

Honestly, I think this is a good idea as a perk. I can't sub right now, unfortunately, but I'm looking forward to trying out this challenger once I have the funds to do so again. I look forward to seeing what else is added to the sub in the future.
7

Julia

This is such a cool new feature!

Not sure if quote scode works on news posts so here we go haha

@Isilven
Quote:
Like seriously, between forbidding people from EVER using their mother language and this? Cancelled my subscription after 15 years of playing here and a good 12 of paying to be here. The moment y'all decide to quit being insanely prohibitive to anyone who isn't from the USA or Canada and isn't white, I'll think about spending my hard-earned money here again.
Aside from your comments being incredibly rude, they are also wrong. Subeta is not country locking paid features. Personally I've played Subeta just fine living in three different non American countries, and a quick google search will teach you Paypal is accessible in so many countries. If someone does not want to sign up to Paypal that's fine, but it's not Subeta's responsibility to cater to them, as this is already a very accessible option they offer.

As for your language comment, Subeta is a website with guidelines that need to be moderated. Staff can't do that in languages they don't speak, it's not feasible. English is not my first language but I don't expect to be able to use my mother language on a website where staff mod in English. They are not asking anyone to do away with their culture or language, they're only asking to be able to communicate us, and keep this site enjoyable and comfortable for everyone.

You're not making a point by cancelling your subscription. No one wants a rude customer to stick around. No one wants to be talked to this way, the money you may have spent here definitely isn't worth it. If you have concerns or questions you can just ask them, instead of being accusatory and cursing at staff.

It's sad to me that after 15 years of enjoying Subeta, that offers plenty to do for free, you would disregard your time spent here because you don't like staff doing the bare minimum they have to do to keep this site up. As another user has already said, it's reading comments like yours that make me less likely to actively engage in the community, not staff releasing items / challengers that I may not have access to.

I hope you reconsider your stance on this matter. Subeta is a free website where you can do so much without having to pay a dime. It is made tempting to buy CSC and subscriptions, because that is what is needed to keep this website up. It's a business - not a charity. They are not slighting anyone by running a business that already offers so much free content, and offering some paid and possibly restricted content. You are not entitled to everything this website offers just because you want it, I don't expect to be either.
56

Lyonid

Subscription models are not elegant - we all know this. In all honesty, of course I would love to pay once and be happy, yet web technology doesn't build itself out of thin air. This site has to be maintained, its future has to be evaluated and ensureing that people get something fun out of their monthly payment is what makes this site actually run. You don't lose anything with this challenger - even the book's prices are getting cheaper (which is NEVER a bad thing). Quit crying over payment methods since this is something staff just can't do anything about. Systemic inequalities and capitalism are disgusting - yet nothing you should cry about in here. Criticize the site when it's necessary and apparent that something is clearly going wrong - and it has been. This is not the case with this update and it only frustrates a small group of people that most-likely already struggle with going on with this place. Don't get me wrong, I am all here for being very cautious with every new addition, but this one is a small yet important one compared to the lootbox debacle. Honestly, give people even more for their coin. Any convenience, more old items, pet slots, vouchers, what fucking ever - just know where to draw the line. As soon as finances are stable, getting developers and infratructure will be the very fundamental thing for the site to heal. You demanding everything to be free is an insult to people who decided to drop their money to support a site that is barely making you pay as much as other games.
16

METROID

Well if it only gives 1k in EXP at 10 wins, then I generally don't think I mind missing out. xD At least the books will become affordable then.
1

Cassandra

Ahhh I do enjoy a good bookgasm. Best challenger ever.
0

BoaConstrictor

In order to guarantee longer subscription periods, adding a prize for being a member for specific tiers for (half) a year, would be an idea - I look at the unobtainable Fanciful Boxes and event weapons you're not bringing back.
And there must be similar incentives for non battlers as well.
5

BoaConstrictor

@Amber
(I hate pinging people, I'm sorry) but one of my questions was drowned in the flood of comments:

if I pause my subscription, will I have access to the challenger again, once I renew?

Quote by indica:
how long will this challenger be available to subscribers? will we have access to it indefinitely, or are there plans to cycle it out for other challengers over time?
also this.

I think a full explanation of the mechanics of this kind of challenger in the battle forum would be helpful/mandatory.
4

Evil

It's just 1 challenger out of the more than 200 currently active and available challengers so unless you've unlocked every challenger there's really no reason for a user to be sour over this. The loot book prices will drop and stablize over time.
------
@Amber
@Keith

Is there any intention to make this available to all users after an extended period of time?

I have the subscription and love this as an incentive, but I do feel for users who will be permanently locked out of an active challenger simply for not having the means or desire to subscribe. What about making it it a regular cash shop challenger after an extended period of time so nobody is permanently locked out.

The other way would be to set up a different way for users to purchase a subscription for others using cash only (No CSC!) . It would bring in more revenue but this side should probably be tracked separate since it wouldn't be a constant revenue stream.
10

ALIEN

Wish I hadn't read the comments on this news post, some people really need an attitude adjustment. Thanks for this challenger. Reminds me of the haunted bookcase in Super Mario 64.
14

Feya

Ahhh I didn't catch it in the discussion, but... Will this opponent retire anytime soon? Or do we have plenty of time to sort out our spare funds and payment options? @Amber
3

jKat

@Keith

I see I cannot use my credit card, I'm from Australia.
Will this change in the near future?
4

Reaper

@Amber
Just a quick question since the mechanics of the challenger are that it increases in difficulty with every win: shouldn't experience go up to match that? I noticed that for wins 11-20 I was only get 10exp each win. Just checking to see if that is something that is not changing with all of the other changes or if that is an error!
1

Stocking

Is it just not common knowledge that websites cost money to run? Every post about paid features I've seen in the past year has more comments than I'd expect reading like people have no idea how the internet works.

for the record, it's people exactly like you on these news posts that have made me stop playing. i came to the comments to see the drops, not this infantile bull. it's not the people of this website's job to cater to you, don't curse at them, don't flat out lie for attention, i am so tired of this complaining. i don't think some of you will ever realize that when you come here like it's your duty to roast the admins do so at the expense of the people around you. you're being so insanely selfish, i am so so so tired. please stop, some of the comments are so far from constructive that they just shouldn't be posted. we could genuinely do without them.

ok but some of y'all are literally never satisfied lol

Well. Let me go get me some books.

I like the idea of this challenger but I don't like the fact that it forces u to subscribe...lol
4

teacup132

I think that we are pretty lucky to have so many things available that don't require a subscription compared to other sites. Yes, I battle. No, I can't permit myself subscriptions as I use food banks, etc. However, I'm thankful for what I can get. Plus, with more books circulating there's a chance I can buy a few whereas before there was no chance. Businesses need a stable income and hard decisions need to be made. I'm an admin for a residence. The board of directors must look into raising the rent to not run in the red. The tenants won't be happy, but those are the type of tough decisions that must be made for the better of the organization. Thank you staff for all that you do :heart:
6

Sneaky

I didn't think this had any problems until people brought up international payment issues, which is understandable, but it's still better than that Melody item being made into loot for a difficult and limited time challenger after we were promised it would be in a shop (I don't think I'll ever stop being salty about that). These books are more likely to deflate in price than that item is.

I am wondering, though, does this mean no more Cash Shop challengers once you've caught up with last year? I mean, we have lots already, I'm just wondering. I'm also wondering if there will be more free challengers this year or if you're going to take a break until next year to get things back on schedule, or go back to doing throwback challengers.

I have to wait till I go to town to pay my bills but I'm in this sounds exciting
0

I understand people without a subscription who are battlers would be disappointed to miss the battle piece, but the books are going to plummet in price and non-subscribers will benefit from that. There’s a book that’s been on my wishlist for years. I have a link to the shop search for it on my notepad and I check every day. Hundreds of days clicking that link to see none for sale. So, at least from the books/items/collectors perspective (and even battlers needing those alchemy points) it’s a win for everyone on the site.
3

youngexplorer

Mature reaction: Oh this feature is great. Thank you for the fun challenger and the amazing, rare books loot drop.
Immature reaction: WHAT!!!??? I don't get to participate because I don't have a gold account??? Bad Subeta, unfair Subeta. I want what I want and I should get it no matter if I qualify or not.
3

KiaArra

Eh. Don't love it, don't hate it. Wish there was a way for people who don't have the ability to pay with USD to obtain it, via gifting or CSC or something. I get that the site's gotta make money, but I also don't like to see long time loyal members blocked from features due to financial issues. All the other subscriber perks are obtainable in some form or other through time and dedication to the site. I am generally not a fan of any month sub model (other sites/apps included) but typically features granted by subscriptions aren't completely unobtainable to those who can't pay, it just might take them longer/more effort to earn the same things. Unfortunately, I don't see this type of pay model going away any time soon. It's EVERYWHERE. Gone are the days of give money: get product; now it's all give money: gain access to product for x time until you give money again. I can't change it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
16

Blythe

Omg Ancient Secrets is a loot drop and I just… 😭😭😭😭😭…THANK YOU
4

Jinx

SUCH a smart and cool way to rerelease some old books. Kudos, this genuinely rocks.
6

Keith

@Silven I'm going to remind you that there are community guidelines.

We're running a business, and that requires being able to model our income and outflows. We have plenty of opportunities to purchase items, and challengers, and this is one to encourage folks to subscribe to what we think is a much better deal with more perks, in order for us to be able to do backend accounting easier.

I'm sorry to lose you as a customer, but considering that we accept all credit cards and paypal, there are options for international folks. Paypal operates in over 200 countries.
45

Shirley

I'm not a battler but I love this challenger and the idea behind it! It sounds super fun. :D
Also like that we're starting to see more perks to the subscription that can appeal to other folks. <3
5

"Can't" get Paypal, and "won't" get Paypal are two very different things, y'all.

"Then unfortunately you can't get a subscription, and won't be able to get this challenger."

LMAO are you SERIOUS with this? You guys are now COUNTRY-LOCKING challengers now? Fuck you guys lmao.
6

Isilven

Yeah I don't like this at all. Why do the people I give Buddy Gold to not get this too?
2

Ryuu

@Marlboro
Just so you know and/or can tell your bank, the charge may come out as Agoge Inc. instead of Subeta.

That's how it charges for me (through PayPal) & my bank usually categorizes it as either a gym subscription (ha) or electronics. Hope that might help! ♥️
7

Kellijuana

actually... I have the dumb and my subscription hasn't expired yet... lemme just...

But very cool! Can't wait until I'm resubscribed :D

lol hilarious I just cancelled mine a week or two ago XD such failure I have
0

Marina

I can understand the folk who are disappointed because they can't subscribe (I've been there!), but personally I'm happy that Subeta is moving towards a place that makes the business more sustainable. I've seen so many sites rise and fall, and I subscribe to Subeta whether or not I'm currently engrossed in playing, just because I want the site to continue to succeed and stick around.

Love this challenger, and I can't wait to find some time to work through all the wins!
28

NoCuteNameForMe

WOW. The loot books are already getting cheaper. Eep. Love the challenger tho! WOOT!
1

how long will this challenger be available to subscribers? will we have access to it indefinitely, or are there plans to cycle it out for other challengers over time?
0

Marlboro

@Anrivef thanks so much, so I'll try to do the $5 one through paypal, I'll let my bank know about Subeta and this purchase tomorrow
1

Petcollector

Nice! I forgot that you still have the subscription til it ends, so I did get the Chanllenger! Yay!
0

Chocolate

Wow, what a challenger.

I'm not opposed to having subscription exclusive challengers. It's a way to bring more money into the site, and add some new battling features.
I just don't want all the new challengers to be tied to subscriptions.

This dude though- wow that's so many books.
My capped pet burned through 60 wins in no time. My day-old T12 was able to get through win 50 without a loss.
He can't make it through the 51-60 block yet, but definitely in time.

Thank you for rereleasing those books, though I imagine the values are going to tank a bit. No skin off my back, since I never had a copy to sell in the first place, but should be interesting.
4

StarShadow

OK my subscription renews on the 12th so will see how this works.
0

Anrivef

@Marlboro
I actually asked that once cuz I was curious! Let’s see if I word this properly, lol. The GA is counted separately from a subscription! I don’t sub but I have a GA right now so for example, using my info:
Gold Account Info
Bought on Nov 27, 2021 - 11:14 PM
Expires on May 02, 2022 - 12:14 AM
Time left (roughly) 2 months, 2 weeks, 5 days

If I were to subscribe then the 2mo/2w/5d would be “saved for later” so after the subscription ends, it would start using up the GA time again.

Unrelated to @ marb and entirely related to the loot drops:
Spoiler (click here to toggle)
3

Petcollector

Well bummer. I've had a subscription since day one, but wanted to move up to the top one and just canceled mine 2 days ago. Guess I'll have to wait til Saturday. That loot is right up my alley
0

Lyonid

Gonna go ahead and say that I really like the challenger! This might be my favourite update after a long time. It's a nice way to spend some time battling while making other books obtainable. I would love to see new and current challengers with something similar in mind while giving CSC challengers more worthwhile drops. I think it would also help to not somewhere on the site what this challenger might be for and why new potential subscribers should be interested in fighting it. A Food challenger would be pretty cool eventually and who knows, some resets every now and then wouldn't hurt either, hehe. ;)
5

Avel

@DefJamRecords
Maybe you should make a thread so it doesn't get buried. I certainly might use it every once and a while.
2

Laurey

Oh, y'all put the old event books that people have been asking to return for years into a challenger that's pay-only. Okay that's cool :/

I mean at least there will be some in circulation I guess.
13

666

@DefJamRecords - Ok I'm following you know. Totally on board and totally agreed.
1

DefJamRecords

@666
All good lol

And buddy GAs are different than what I’m asking for, so I do have people that I gift my buddy GAs to. What I think would be a good idea is to allow me to purchase ($ not sp/csc) full blown subscriptions for people. (So they would get the same benefits I do as a subscriber)

I think it would be a useful tool to maintain the cyclical income Keith mentioned, and especially nice for those in different countries that don’t have access to subscriptions, or just people who flat out can’t afford them.

I would gladly allocate $50-$100-$200 whatever, extra per month, maybe more depending on desire, to gift out subs. I’m sure I’m not alone on that either.
20

Theatre

This is awesome!!! Thank you for adding more perks to the subscriptions. Can’t wait to show this darn bookcase who’s boss!
2

HYPEBEAST

Is anyone else having problems with the sub? I only received the CW vouchers, opponent and buddy GAs. No GA, item or CSC for me XD

*cracks knuckles* come at me bro, getting attacked by books is my favorite pastime
3

666

Well, that was an embarrassing mistype. So sorry @DefJamRecords and everyone who listens to like, any music.
6

666

@DeafJamRecords - I'm pretty sure that's already a feature with the Buddy GAs, unless you're thinking of something that isn't directly tied to the current subs.

I'm in the same line of thought as @kitten. Battling doesn't interest me much so I'll wait for any prizes to hit shops. But if there were same-priced tiers that didn't have access to the battlers but had more CW vouchers or HA customizations, I'd pick that.
0

Kitten_410

Reading through these comments I'm concerned people might not realize Subeta is a company and companies need money to run. Kudos to the team for coming up with a challenger that is both fun and rewarding for users that already have a sub and encouraging sale point to some others. Subscription models are fantastic and I'm all for it, my only wish is in the future we might get more choice over what we can have in our sub I find like most users some of the things are not useful to me and often times while it's more interesting the "bloat" of things you get from a sub can even be more of a deterant than you think.

Side question, any chance of adding a ‘gifted subscription’ option?

I’d love to gift out subscriptions to users who can’t get them!
22

Marlboro

ok just tell me this, I've got 9 months left from my gold account, thanks to gifts from holidays that I refused to sell (thanks my friends you're amazing!)
so if I'm subscribing to the Quester now, what happens to the 9 month? will I just get another month?

tbh I barely know if I can even pay, I live in Costa Rica right now and I'm scared that a payment that from Subeta, a business that the bank has no clue about, might lock my card and then I will have to go through hell to get a new one.
7

frederick

Yeah, I dunno how I feel about occasionally added rental challengers.

I'd like a perk that's not wearables, but. Can't say renting a challenger for $5 a month is appealing either?
12

jensen

@Keith
thank you for the clarification, i really appreciate it and i'm looking forward to whatever you have coming up next :)
4

Keith

@jensen Well then I can very clearly say that no, we intend to keep adding to subscriptions to make them rounded for all types of users on the site and don't anticipate moving anything over to being subscription only :)
19

jensen

@Keith
yes, i am aware of the reasons for the subscription challenger, and again, i don't mind and i'm excited to see if this scaling style challenger is reused in the future. i'll probably sub next week if the subscription item is my style! i was just worried that the majority of future paid challengers might be tied to subscriptions.
10

DefJamRecords

Love the addition!

Tell ‘em Keith! Such a solid move.

Just popping in to say that while it does take a while, T1 pets can totally make the 10 wins. I expect books to flood the market. You lose out on the experience but at least everybody can share the books. I'm planning on taking all my pets through it.
8

Loki

I really like this! It was a fun way to get books my pets needed. :)

Keith

@jensen Yup -- that's kind of the problem. We need cyclical, predictable, income that we can make decisions against (hiring, contractors, servers, etc) and it's really hard to make any kind of predictions without subscriptions making the bulk of our monthly income.

We want to make the improvements players have been asking for, and it means that we'll have to be a little bit more business-minded to make it happen.

Hopefully you'll be able to get the prizes from user shops, or subscribe for a month to get the amount of wins you're looking for!

Amber

Luckily, @MarchOnOff, the books aren't account bound. So they will hit the market at some point!
8

Silverfox

Oh I'm having fun with this one! It's rainin' books! I'm also glad to see my subscription is giving me something I want to use. I always struggle to spend my CW vouchers but I'm always down for a good challenger. :P
5

Keith

@MarchOnOff Of course the prizes will be available from users with subscriptions who complete the battles, so hopefully you'll be able to find what you need in user shops :)
11

jensen

@Amber
yeah i get it! my problem is that i don't usually want a gold account, so i like the usual method of paying for csc for an unlock item much better ^^;
3

MarchOnOff

@Keith

Then thanks a lot. Usually I don't give a rat's behind, but it's the books I'm after. Don't worry, I'll live. I still think is very unfair though.
9

Keith

@Raven Yup, this is a challenger specifically for subscribing, which is a thing we need folks to do so that we can keep running the site.

If you can't subscribe this one challenger on the site won't be for you, sorry!

Kyocera

Best. Challenger. Ever!

I agree.
We've been there, when you lost your rank without the extra Battle Quests put into the GA.

Much worse, I decided to pay for them and then they got removed and my money just poofed, never got a refund or anything.

Raven

So those who can’t subscribe cant battle? If so I don’t like this
15

Keith

@MarchOnOff Then unfortunately you can't get a subscription, and won't be able to get this challenger.
3

Rogue

What a cool idea for a challenger! & Yay for old book re-releases!
1

Amber

@jensen Of course! I think the goal is to eventually have something for everyone in the subscriptions? Not everyone wants a (cool) wearable or custom wearable voucher. Just trying to appeal to more people without going overboard!
@Satyr but if we do it to more challengers, then mr bookcase will be typical!!!! (honestly I love the idea of this challenger and I can't wait to see other fun things the BAs come up with)
7

BoaConstrictor

"The plan is for you to lose access to the challenger when you end you subscription."
Ohhh,...
that's not so cool.
I just finished 2 months of GA, that's much too time consuming for me, doing 15 quests for every quest giver. And that's the only perk I used. I don't find anything of use for me in the GAs, since the extra battle quests were "stolen" from me half way through my full GA year, which I had bought for those solely.
I haven't fought many of my Cash Shop challengers yet, because normal game play eats way too much time and I don't have any left for battling. And if I do, I want to enjoy it and not be under stress, which I have during events, anyway - and enough in real life.
6

Disasters

God I hope after this we get challengers like this for other collections! Gourmet food! Plushies! Beanbags! Stickers!!!
8

Jovi

I hope that this new loot model is passed onto the CS challengers - at least the ones released this year. I think its only fair that the challengers that people are paying CSC for at least drop the basic loot that all of the normal/secret challengers drop. For example impossible challengers drop tomes at wins 10, 15, and 20.

absolute

Im liking all these books !!

SAILOR

Okay so lvl 51 and I'm I'm starting to stuggle
2

Satyr

So I'm a few dozen fights in, and I like this opponent's gimmick. Would be in favor of seeing "atypical" challengers like this.
2

MarchOnOff

@Amber

I do not use PayPal and I had loads of problems with credits, Stripe doesn't know that Israel exist and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in this position. What are we supposed to do?! Not fair and not cool!!
10

SAILOR

@MarchOnOff
I'm UK based and can get subscription via Paypal
6

jensen

@Amber
thank you for the info + reassurance ^^
0

Sunday

oh my god please make that with a goumet challenger please!
3

Ryuu

Square up; all those books you read one time & threw away are about to see if you've got the write stuff~
3

Amber

@jensen also regarding your newest comment, this isn't the norm! Just an additional perk to the subscriptions. We're not going to roll out new challengers every month specifically for subscriptions, right now the only plan is this bookworm pal and his many haunted books.
8

Amber

@Satyr I'm not a battle admin so I can't say for sure, but I'd assume it's correct since it scales in difficulty.
@jensen @BoaConstrictor The plan is for you to lose access to the challenger when you end you subscription.
@MarchOnOff I wasn't sure on this so I asked another staff member and they said "You can subscribe outside of the US, there are PayPal and credit options".
5

jensen

not to be a debbie downer immediately after this thing comes out -- because it does look cool, and i'm really happy to see a new kind of scaling challenger! -- but i sure hope this isn't the start of battling transitioning to some kind of pay-to-play model tied exclusively to subscriptions ^^;
30

BoaConstrictor

Sounds fun and interesting!
0

SAILOR

Yassssss, this is actually insanely cool

Love you guys
0

BoaConstrictor

Thanks, Amber! So if we only subscribe in, say, June, we will still get the challenger then.
0

jensen

do you lose access to the challenger after your subscription ends?
2

Victoria

Oh yay! A challenger that I can actually beat :)
0

Satyr

Is it a bug or a feature that the bookcase is giving out different difficulty tokens? I'm a fan, personally.
0

MarchOnOff

@Amber
Mind answer my question too?
2

Amber

@BoaConstrictor No, it'll be available. It's just if you subscribe right now you'll get the event as you subscribe but if you already have a subscription, it'll be added to your account automatically when it renews if you don't go visit the Colliseum.
4

BoaConstrictor

"If you start a new subscription (or wait a month)"
So it will only be added February or March and not thereafter? ...when probably another will come out?
0

Senti

@Amber okay thank you
0

Amber

Correct, @Senti. This challenger is specifically a perk for subscriptions at Quester or higher.
3

MarchOnOff

I can't subscribe, not from USA, how am I supposed to get this?!
5

Senti

So if you don't subscribe to this you can't get the challenger?
8

Rick

Oh, I thought it was a bug lol

10 wins
