A delicate rose
Blossoms in the springtime morn
Lady of the glade
Lady Chaviva put the pen down, and blew gently on the paper to encourage the ink to dry. Known among her family for her kind and easy going nature, Lady Chaviva was a lady of leisure. Although she did not have a formal job, she enjoyed her daily hobbies of writing poetry and stories.
She ruffled her hair as she stretched, having spent far too much time at the desk already. But it was just so easy to get wrapped up in her work! Words would dance in her head as she slept at night, and she just felt the need to pore them out onto paper, lest the ideas escape, and she lose them altogether.
Standing up, she decided to go on a walk around the grounds to find inspiration in the flowers as they sparkled underneath the sun. She paused at her vanity and checked her reflection. Her luscious red locks were in good form, not too disturbed by her earlier movements. She picked up a white rose barrette and clipped back a stray lock that would not stay in place. Pleased that she looked reasonably presentable, Lady Chaviva ventured out into the rest of the household.
As soon as she opened her bedroom door onto the hallway, her younger brother, Moshe-Moriel, ran into her.
"Watch where you're going!" she said, not unkindly. He avoided her eye contact, and she looked at him inquisitively. "What have you been up to?"
There was a long pause, and Chaviva put her hands on her hips, sure that he was trying to think up a plausible story to explain away his antics. But he didn't try to fib.
"Um, nothing. Do we have any glue?"
She pointed him off to a supply closet, and he ran off, just as reckless as always, despite her warning. She shook her head and smiled; she couldn't get too upset at the child. It's good to be young, and she let him have his moment. His youth would leave him far too quickly anyway.
Exiting the house at the kitchen door, Lady Chaviva walked along a cobblestone path that wound its way into the gardens. It was still relatively early in the day, with the sun casting pink and orange hues into the sky.
Hugging her arms to her torso, she rubbed away the slight chill that the outdoors had given her, but found the sensation pleasant. It was like the day was saying, "Good morning!" with a friendly little nip in the weather.
As she traveled through the gardens, she found a favorite spot next to a red rose bush and sat down. She did love flowers so much, and she found that each one had its own personality. Tulips always seemed full of laughter, roses were flirty, daisies were mischievous.
Pulling out a small notebook -- for she always kept one with her -- she rolled her ideas around in her head and settled down to write again.
These small pleasures were what made life so enjoyable.
