This pet's story has nothing to do with me. I just made this one up because I didn't quite like the idea of a pet based upon myself, or another princess story.

A pet was all that that little girl ever wanted. A Kerubi, to be precise. An Arid one, to be exact.

Every Luminaire day, a letter written in infantile handwriting and adorned with colorful drawings was left under the tree, always saying: "Dear Melody, all I really really want this Lumineve is a pet. A Kerubi with gray stripes would be so nice!". Below that phrase, a list of optional things was she could bring her.

But she always brought her those optional things, never that beloved pet the little girl wanted. Her parents were responsible for buying the pet, but they weren't quite sure if she could take care of it just yet or not, with or without their help. They already had a wylop once, and... well, let's say it didn't have quite a happy ending.

It wasn't until her tenth birthday that they had made their decission: they would give her that gray-striped creature, but one that functioned diferently. They decided that a Steamwork Kerubi disguised as a truly-living Arid Kerubi would be the best pet for their spoiled little girl.

They bought custom-made schematics to make the pet be more easily dressed to pretend; they also bought a synthetic yet-so-real skin to sew and cover the robot, toys, and a collar - just like any family would get for their pets. They also had to buy something to hide the Key that popped on the mechanical pet's little head - a tiny top hat was all they could find. Everything was set and ready for the 25th of December.

The very next day, a big white wooden box adorned with a delicate golden bow was placed next to the window, close to the chimney. The couple's little girl was delighted when she saw - after opening the box, of course - that sleeping Kerubi with white fur and gray stripes. She was already wearing a black collar with a bell, and that silly black top hat.

"And how are you going to name her?", asked the mother as the girl woke her new pet up. She just smiled, and answered easily: "Her name's Cinderella. I dunno why, but I like that name! And she's gonna like it too!". They didn't question her choice - it was a pretty name, nonetheless.

Everything went fine and smoothly for all the months that followed. Cinderella was discreetly fed coal and oil, disguised as normal pet food served in porcelain dishes. Her little owner never questioned why she had to use that tiny hat, or why she was so apathetic all the time, or why her aways were gilded rather than the hot pink Arid Kerubis most often have. All that, combined with the fact that she could never die, made Cinderella the best pet they could have. Or that's what they thought.

"This was our greatest idea, wasn't it, hun?", asked the mother, as she watched the mechanical Kerubi play with a flock of colorful birds.

"Sure it was", answered the husband whilst walking up to her. "It doesn't take that much to take care of this pet, and our daughter is happy with it. Everyone wins, right?".

"I guess so...", she replied, paying just a bit of attention to what he was saying. Her face gradually became more worried and worried. "Hun... how are we going to tell her it's not a real Kerubi...?"

The father's face suddenly became white as a sheet. Well, sure it was their best plan, but not yet the perfect...
