Tomes and scrolls were the main adornment of the opulent captain's cabin on the sky pirate vessel, the Somber Spark.

Among the piles of tomes and scrolls in the far back of the cabin by the chalky windows was an imposing wooden desk said to be carved out of a tree plucked from the sacred forest; and behind the desk perched an older woman, her face buried in the hefty tome laying on the desk. She hardly ever stirred save for the occasional sip of her lukewarm coffee or the scrawl of a quill. Her waist length hair was the color of snow and her eyes like the murky waters of the seas neighboring the deserts.

She was Athella, the captain of the dingy Somber Spark. Despite growing up on the vessel, she had no general interest in being a sky pirate like her father, Kaine, but she still took up the helm and became the captain when her father passed away a few years ago.

Athella had a yearning for knowledge though and always sought out to learn everything she could; She all but abandoned her pirate legacy her father embraced. Utilizing the vessel, she embarked onward to the farthest reaches of Sornieth to explore and learn all she could of the world, writing everything she studied into the shabby books that now clutter the dusty bowels of the captain's cabin.

Personality
Athella is a quiet woman who spends her time writing novels of information in the silence of her cabin. She hardly ever speaks save a few words when needed and even spends her time outside scouting the lands alone. If she ever appears dazed, she is typically dreaming the day away or thinking of a new location to venture to.

The Somber Spark
The flying vessel was created in Kaine's earlier years, the idea spun up on a densely stained table in a tavern surrounded by the few he trusted.

Kaine, Winston, Theo, and Yuna decided to take flight with the idea and began working on transforming their old pirate vessel, the Rosy Mermaid, into a ship capable of taking to the skies. With Kaine and Winston taking care of the mechanics of the ship and Theo and Yuna gathering the materials, the ship was modified in a year and the crew celebrated the job with a beer and a new name for the vessel; The Somber Spark.

The crew spent a number of years working as pirates of the clouds and the sky, until a small bundle was left upon the deck one summer night while docked outside a paltry town. Kaine knew immediately what it was and took the bundle, not informing the crew of what it was. It wasn't till long the crew found out it was a little baby girl that Kaine named Athella. Kaine never told them who the mother of Athella was, but they only assumed it was a tavern wench that he had a fling with a bit ago.

During the first few years, the crew attempted to train Athella as a pirate, but she revolted mostly against them and stayed locked in her room, surrounded by piles of books and tomes that once lined the shelves in the captain's cabin.

As the years grew on, she became isolated from her father and the crew, until an accident in the wastelands that left her as the captain of the ship. While exploring, Athella was attacked by a pack of hyenas and Kaine came to save her, but didn't pull through after the fight. The crew was devastated at the loss of Kaine which Theo and Yuna blamed Athella for as she wanted nothing to do with pirating; only wanting to explore the world. The two walked away from the ship, leaving behind Winston and Athella. Winston swore to Kaine before his passing to watch over Athella and stayed as the ships butler to watch over her. With the Somber Spark under Athella's command, the pirate life ended and a life of discovery began.
