Callula
The Angelic Dragarth
Owner: Chime
From her vantage point in the tree, Callula could see the intense battle between Bernard and Carnaby as they fought over her Brie. Her girl. Callula would always think of Brie as her girl, as her best friend, even though Brie had forgotten about her. Thus is the life of an imaginary friend.
It happened when Brie's parents had given her a new puppy. The little pup hadn't liked Callula. It would bark and yap and yip and bark and growl and just. wouldn't. stop. Like any young girl, Brie loved her new puppy, so she started to play with Callula less and spent her newfound free time with the puppy. Callula found this arrangement bittersweet; she spent less time with Brie, but also less time with the dog. Over time, Brie lost interest in the games she and Callula would play and would rather play with Victoria. That dog.
Callula hated that dog.
Brie eventually decided she was "too old" to have an imaginary friend like Callula. For days after her decision, Callula would wait outside in the garden where they use to play for Brie. And wait. And wait. Eventually Callula gave up.
When an imaginary friend gives up on their creator, their Master, the child forgets everything about the friend. Brie ended the friendship, but it was Callula who broke the bond.
Now Callula stays up in her tree, watching Brie play with her friends. Even though Brie pretended to be annoyed with Bernard, Callula knew her girl well enough to know that she actually enjoyed the anyu's company. It was sweet, Callula thought, that Brie had other friends. For whenever Brie would play with Bernard, Carnaby would always join in. Carnaby was Bernard's imaginary friend, after all.
Callula would be lying if she said she wasn't jealous of the other dragon. Carnaby not only had a Master, but he also had her Brie. Callula couldn't fault him for that, though. She experienced what it was like to be forgotten, and she wouldn't wish that on anyone. Really, she's touched by how fortunate Carnaby is, and happy that there's someone to watch out for her girl.
The game broke up and Bernard and Brie went their separate ways into their separate houses, leaving Carnaby alone in the garden. He laid down in the grass to wait for the next game. Callula flew out of the tree and laid down beside him. Silently, she tried to comfort him alone. Once you know your Master, your creator, you best friend in the entire world is one day going to forget about you and just leave you, it's hard not to feel anxious when they depart. Callula wasn't going to let Carnaby go through the abandonment alone.
It may not happen today, or even this year, but Callula promised herself she would be there. So she put on a smile for Carnaby and did what she could to distract him from Bernard's absence until the little anyu came out to play again.
