This has been translated from uneducated hick for your reading pleasure:

I've been running for a couple years now, there have been a few close calls but I mostly manage to get away… somehow. My father has been chasing me ever since I escaped, I'm not sure if I regret that or not; all this running is starting to wear me out. Every time I think I'm safe, he shows up again, and hes never alone, always with the rifle. Sometimes I question my sanity and decision about running away, but that torturous life was beyond unbearable.

My original hope when I ran away was that my Father would loose interest, he hasn’t, hes chased me every mile. Even when I go into a town, he still chases me with the gun even with all the people staring. I hate when they stare, I try my hardest to avoid main streets and usually stick to the shadows, but he always manages to find me and chase me into the open. He shoots at me whenever he gets a good shot, it doesn’t matter to him if anyone sees or gets hit, no, hes too crazy to care. From time to time he does manage to hit me with a bullet, it's always painful but I know how to deal with them from past experience, keep the wound clean and free of maggots, stop the bleeding, and various other things depending where I get hit.

Lately the environment has been strange, lots of rocks and the dirt is loose. There are strange plants that prick when you touch them, its also hotter out. I've only been in this place for a couple days so far, in the towns there seems to be fewer people. I have to walk farther and farther to get to the towns, I've never been to a place like this. Most of the day when I'm not running, I'm hiding in the shade, just to escape the sun. Sometimes I don’t even get that luxury, having to wander around in the heat with my Father right behind me.

This town was just like the others, worn by the elements, but still busy with people. I had found a nice alleyway to hide, it had shade and even a dumpster for food. I made a mistake, I let my guard down, made too much noise and didn’t pay attention to the people eyeing me from the streets. The familiar sound of a gun firing was all I needed to get focused again, turning my attention to the way I had come in, there he was, my father. Taking a second to look back, I had made a mistake, I was cornered in, there was no back way out of the alley. It took only a second to make my decision, I ran towards my father, and to my surprise, I made it. Sure I was out in the open on the main street, but I was alive. I looked down at my feet as I ran, looking for Reggie, my strange little rodent who has been with me for years, he was there, running after me. Now that I knew he was safe, I sprinted down the street, darting in and out of people.

I desperately wanted a spot to hide, looking around as I ran, I saw it, a small dark alleyway. I quickly darted into it, not even seeing the man sitting there against the wall. Running straight past him I went to a place I felt safe, somewhere out of sight for the most part, behind a dumpster. I didn’t notice that man for a few seconds, when I finally looked up I almost jumped out of my skin. He didn’t seem to notice me yet, so I laid low and tried to hide in the shadows. I was shaking from fright, hoping I wasn’t seen. Looking around I noticed that Reggie wasn’t there with me, I called for him, hoping hed come like he usually does. Frantically I looked around, and peeked around the dumpster for him, looking over I could see the man staring at me; I froze. When he didn’t seem to mind my presence, I called for Reggie again. I kept a close eye on the man, ready to run if he moved closer to me. When he moved I tried to scramble away, only for my hand to slip in the strange dirt and I fell, quickly I scootched a few inches away. When I looked back up, I could see Reggie walking up to the man, completely care free, I watched in horror as he sniffed the strangers hand and scrambled up to the hat. I couldn’t run now, not with Reggie on the mans head. I stared at him, almost as if staring would make Reggie come back, the only thing it did was make the man stand, and come closer.

He was so tall, it was frightening, I had never seen anyone that tall. It made me feel unsafe, but the thought of Reggie kept me glued to the spot. Usually Reggie didn’t go up to strangers, there must have been something different about this man, so I didn’t bolt when he got too close for comfort. Slowly he seemed to offer his hat and Reggie, I was uneasy, not sure if I was allowed to take Reggie or not, my hands were shaking as I took him back and clung onto him. I shot the man a quick smile, like an unsure thanks before cowering again; his towering presence was intimidating but my attention was quickly stolen when I heard the familiar sound of my fathers gun cocking.

Without even thinking I ran behind the man, hoping for some kind of protection from my father and his gun. Wanting to get out of there desperately, I tugged on the jacket he was wearing and plead with my father to go away. When I saw there was really only one way out, I made a run for it, what would one more bullet do? I tugged on his jacket a little harder one last time, just to let him know that there is a way out now. I stumbled and fell down as I ran, I tried to scramble up as fast as I could, but I just couldn’t find my footing and scrambled on the ground for a second, the bullet at my feet was a quick aid to getting myself back up. I was so close to the exit when I heard the gun being cocked and I knew he was aiming it at me. The bang was loud and echoed down the alley…

Before I knew what was happening I was being yanked off my feet and greeted the ground with my face as a bullet whizzed past. Everything seemed to be going in slow motion as I looked up to watch the man quickly turn a corner. Everything sped back up once I heard the next bullet hit the dirt at my feet. Scrambling to get up, I couldn’t get a good grip, the loose dirt made it hard for my hands to get a grip so I could get moving. Running after the man I had no choice but to run standing up. I chased after him, but his stride is so huge that it was hard to keep up, the most I could do was try and keep him in sight.

Eventually I caught up, stopping to catch my breath I looked up at the towering man knowing by now if I was to survive I’d need his help. Tugging at his jacket I simply said, “Heawp Paw guun, chayse must haid.” After standing there for a few seconds, he got down to my level and pointed to a truck. Before I even had a chance to walk over to it, he was shoving me towards the truck. Picking up the pace, I darted for the bed of the truck and leaped in. It was hot as hell in there but I had no choice but to stay in there, curled up in a ball around Reggie, I’d rather get burned than have him get burned.

It seemed like I was in there for ages, that was when I heard Pa’s foot steps coming towards the truck, so I pressed down even lower to the truck bed, burning whatever skin happened to touch the metal leaving blisters. I didn’t move for what seemed like ages, then I heard more footsteps, it was the man who helped me out telling me it was ok to come out. After jumping out of the truck he stood there for a while before turning and walking away. I ran to follow after him and after a while I told him my name, he told me his in return.

After a few minutes of an awkward conversation, a bullet whizzed past my ear. I froze before I did anything, knowing Pa was back. It was a chirp in my ear from Reggie that snapped me out of it only to see Vasco running away. Not needing to be told twice, I ran after him, he was so much faster than me. He seemed to know the layout of the town and eventually lead us to the outskirts of town and on into the desert, it seemed crazy, but I followed. We didn’t get too far before one of the bullets finally hit me and pain went shooting up my arm, I couldn’t help but let out a cry of pain as I ran. I frantically tried to stop the bleeding in vain only to be shot again in my shoulder. Crying out a second time I knew I couldn’t take much more, I was loosing blood too fast. I could tell by the way the wounds felt that one had gone straight through my arm and there was a bullet lodged in my shoulder.

Eventually Pa stopped shooting the gun, but I still staggered on in fear of the gun, eventually passing Vasco. When I couldn’t go on any longer I looked back to see Vasco walking off in another direction. I followed after him, at this point I was struggling to get air in this dry heat, my tongue felt like sand paper in my mouth. I couldn’t hold Reggie anymore, his weight made my arm and shoulder hurt even worse, so I passed him off to Vasco, who didn’t seem to mind.

We walked for what seemed like ages before Vasco pointed out something in the distance that I couldn’t see. After a while I made out a blob that eventually turned into a house. I froze at the doorway, knowing all to well that houses meant pain and suffering. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go in or not, but eventually Vasco made it clear it was safe and I cautiously went in, he offered to tend to my wounds as I stepped through the doorway. Getting up in the chair as he wanted me to, I watched as he went to the back of the house to get something. Coming back, he wrapped what looked like an old shirt around my arm before going to get a second shirt for my back. I was surprised at what he did next, he just knelt there soaking up the blood from my shoulder before trying to pick out the bullet. Eventually he let me off the chair and I went to play with Reggie before falling asleep. Waking up, it was still night out so I followed Reggie outside and before I knew it I was wandering around oblivious to the danger that was stalking. A coyote attacked before I knew what hit me, only for the attack to be cut short by some stones flying in the air, Vasco had followed me and saved me from the coyote; it was strange how he looked out for me like that.

The next morning I woke up to something shining in my eyes, going over I went to investigate. It was the hat Vasco had been wearing. I played around with it for a while till Vasco woke up and lead us towards breakfast, at least, that’s what I thought. Turns out that breakfast was a dead man. Before I could say one word he had already torn into the man and offered me some. I wasn’t sure what to make of the scene, never seeing something like this before. I hadn’t even thought of a person as food before, usually I just hunted small animals.

After a little while, I could hear something approaching us from a distance, looking over my shoulder I could see a mob and that’s what scared me; if I could see it, they were too close. I ran off leaving Vasco to the fate of the mob when he suddenly cried out, looking back I could see he had been shot, I wasn’t sure how many times, but I could tell it was at least once. It was hard, but I slowed my pace for him, frantically I looked around for somewhere that we could hide from the people chasing us. I could see the sun was wearing him out, hell it was wearing me out too, but he didn’t seem to be fairing as well as I had. Looking around I handed him his hat, trying to find a spot to get out of the shade. Eventually I asked Vasco if he knew of a place, he looked and finally pointed somewhere in the distance. We slowly made our way to the place he had seen.

Sure enough, there was a small boarded up opening to the place he had found, there was even what looked like a well right outside too. I walked him inside before he collapsed on the cold hard ground. After having a good look at his wounds I went back outside for water, getting a drink myself before taking some in to Vasco. I soaked the shirt tied around my own arm in water and went back inside to try and stop Vascos bleeding. It took a while, but I finally got the bleeding to stop, but in the process reopened my own wounds, Vasco helped me to tend to those.

We had an awkward conversation until the sun started to go down, and dinner waddled out of a hiding spot. I was just about to catch the lizard when suddenly, Vasco was ontop of me. My mind went blank, fear had set in and I wanted him off. Struggling, I was afraid he was just like every other man I had met before, and that he wanted the same thing. All I knew is I wanted to get out and away, but his grip on me was too tight to even squirm free, I was too scared to even fight back. His weight felt like it was going to crush me, I was surprised when I discovered later that nothing was broken. The sudden physical contact had made me loose track of what was going on and I wanted out. After what felt like an eternity he finally got off me, I sat there freaked out about what had just happened. Shaken from the days events, I couldn’t stay awake any longer, I was exhausted.

Waking up the next day, I was cautious of Vasco after the previous nights events, but we eventually set off in that endless desert again. We wandered around for a few days, in between I managed to catch a few rodents and a snake. It wasn’t often that I caught a rattle snake for lunch, so I showed it off to Vasco who seemed to freak out, maybe I should give food time to die before I eat it. We wandered like this for a few days, passing through old towns, stealing food whenever we had a chance. It made me nervous to have someone following me this whole time, but I couldn’t ditch Vasco he seemed to always follow me. Then one day we stumbled across a strange animal, one that called itself, “Masky.” It’s about the same size of Reggie, but it acts differently and is loud and obnoxious. Masky constantly complains, and calls me “Apple tree of many roots”, I have no clue why though. I don’t like Masky at all, he makes me angry and I have many times considered eating him for dinner, but I’m still not sure what to think of him, so he’s safe….. for now.
