I absolutely HATE random friend requests. Friendship is something to be earned, not something to be given away freely.
Just because you're not friends with someone doesn't mean you can't be friendly with them. And just because someone's friendly with you doesn't mean they're your friend.
I despise any 'friend collecting' behavior.
