The shinigami who is not a shinigami, but does not know it. Nyt was raised in their realm and their ways without the truth being told...the truth that Nyt himself is actually a demon. Nyt is the third child of Sebastian Michaelis and Claude Faustus, and the younger brother of Luca and Accalia Faustus. These facts are not known the him, however.

Soon after his birth, Nyt was taken from his parents. He would be found by Ronald Knox and Grelle Sutcliff, though in fear for their own safety, they took him back to the shinigami realm with them, imploring the highers up to allow the newborn demon to stay. Their request was granted, so long as the truth was never told to Nyt, and contact with his biological family was guarded against. And so Nyt was brought up as a shinigami under the name of Nyt Purcell, the son of Grelle's fictional deceased sister.

As time passed Nyt easily made it to the head of his class at the Academy, becoming a fine reaper and even being granted his own custom death scythe. Nyt was happy in his life, but he garnered a hatred of demons in the wake of his raising. Without knowing his true nature, he would injure, and even kill, demons with abandon. However, a part of him would feel the guilt of killing his unknown brothers.

However, Nyt also had to live forever with the hunger of not consuming souls. No matter what he would do, the dull ache in his abdomen would never cease. He could not understand why his mouth watered at the sight of the souls he was meant to reap. This became Nyt's secret curse as he would never reveal the truth to anyone. Grelle and Ronald saw him suffer, and wondered if they had truly done the right thing all those years ago. However, things would slowly began to shift when a chance encounter with Sebastian started to turn Nyt's world around...

Nyt is generally a calm person with a good sense of humor and likes to go out for a drink. However, Nyt almost masquerades his way through life. He doesn't honestly like to be around lots of people, rather enjoying to spend his time alone or with Grelle and Ronald. He is at his happiest, however, when he can look up at the stars and trace the constellations, or watch a meteor shower. He believes that he was named because his mother thought the stars in the night sky were beautiful, but that isn't true. Nyt was named by his brother, Luca, for the night sky that stretched calmly outside the window on the night of his birth. When Nyt is able to look at the stars he feels a connection with someone...someone he hasn't seen for a very long time, and while the thought it frightening, it's also calming.

Nyt is also hyper focused when it comes to his work as he adheres strictly to the shinigami code of hard work (though he knows the difference between work and play). However, he's not uptight as a result. He learned from Ronald not to get swamped with overtime like Grelle because he could have more fun if he just got things done. That leaves him with a lot of free time between jobs, most of which is spent at a pub, reading, or sleeping for entire days at a time.

Lately, however, Nyt has become less talkative and more irritable. His encounter with Sebastian and Scimitar's peek inside his heart have left him wondering what's true and what's not. He just wants to find out the truth so that life can go on...
