  • a small note no one will read

I left multiple comments on the Survival 2020 l'amour parlor news post, deriding the release of multiple kink/bdsm items because of this site's 13+ age allowance.

I wanted to note I feel completely differently now (date of writing: june 2023). I wanted to address two points I have made in the past.

    1. "this site allows children, so it should be child friendly."
the vast majority of this site's userbase is adults. but it still does not allow explicit content. having learned more about the kink and bdsm scene, especially as it relates to lgbt history, I do not feel most kink and bdsm paraphernalia is that explicit. it is tied to activities and lifestyles that include sex, but what isn't? if lingerie is fine, pup masks are fine.

    2. "the inclusion of these items and the allowance of mature themes will be used by predators to normalize sexual content around children in order to groom them."
this is the same argument that has been used over and over again at every step of gay and transgender rights and liberation. any level of aberration from the "pure" and whitewashed norm has been painted as inherently sexual and a slippery slope towards abusing children. there is a real and genuine problem with the lack of safety for children on the internet - but I do not think this situation contributes to that. true, genuine danger is introduced when facilitating a shared, anonymous, no-rules space between adults and children. but subeta, in addition to being mostly adults, has rules in place aiming to prevent this, and is otherwise just representing neutral realities of life. there is plenty, if not more, danger in store for children in ultra-sanitized systems where there are more children, and less protections and education.
