So I've been chronicling my adventures across Subeta since I began them. I hail from a land southwest of Veta, a small community shrouded in mist, not even marked on the maps you get around here. Growing up I was fascinated with the question of how big the world is and what things it had to offer, so when I was old enough I packed my bags and sought adventure - and adventure I found. I've seen the darkest depth of Darkside, the blizzards of the Arctic Frosts and I've seen what seemed like world's end multiple times. But out of all these things, the story I really want to share with you is how our little household came to be. When I first headed into what is known as the subetan Civiliziation - You know, the bits you find on maps - I ran into Chromakitty. She was on the run from I don't even know what, some trouble she caused. She ran into me on my first train to Centropolis, as our eyes met we recognized each others adventorous spirits. I hid her in my bag when her persecutors came along and we never separated after that. Those darkest depths? Those blizzards? Those near apocalypses? She was right there by my side. Without a steady place to live, we were each others home. Well, until we got an actual home. We made our money running quests for whoever had any on offer. With no place too far away, no item too strange, we earned a reputation among those who needed errands run. Eventually a new client came along. A rich fella called Saggitarius. With his generous payouts, Chroma and I were able to afford a decently sized fixer-upper place in one of the, uh, simpler districts of Centropolis. We swore to each other that having a base wouldn't mean the end of our adventures, but simply a new chapter. We were walking through the downtown of Centropolis. Somewhere between the towering buildings and forest of walking legs we saw a Kumos that didn't seem to know at all where he belonged. He sat between the people, who didn't bother at all, and nervously stared around as if he was trying to figure out how he got there. His name is Bifrostbite. He told us that he used to belong to an old lady, but for whatever reason, someone kicked him out of her house a couple of days ago, and he was never let back in. We offered him to stay with us. The first things he noticed when he entered our studio flat were my books, he talked more about them than anything else. I've decided to get him a job at the library, maybe an occupation helps him gain some footing. Chroma and I had to run some errands in the arctic frost today. Our sense for adventure got the better of us and we decided to explore the ice fields. We had seen nothing but white for longer than our nerves could stand before we ran into two pets - A Montre called Moonburn and a Ruffie puppy called Sparkworld. Apparently Moon had found Spark alone in the snow some time ago. Being a Glacier Montre, he grew up in the ice fields and never minded the cold, but now he didn't want his new galactic fosterling to suffer under these harsh conditions. I offered to take Sparkworld in and he said he wouldn't just give her away - so now they both live with us. Just like with Bifrost, I told them to get jobs, so they are occupied with something. Moonburn didn't seem to like the idea, he told me that caring for Spark is more important than work. I've decided to stay home today. There's a hefty thunderstorm roaring outside and I rather wanted use the chance to do some housework. The only one who didn't stay home today was Moonburn, who reluctantly decided to take on a job at the Battle Coliseum. He came back late today. And he didn't come alone. Soaked with rain, as the thunder was roaring, he dragged in an experiment. As I was trying to make out what kind it was, it emitted a faint glow and shifted its shape. I don't know if this has happened before or if this is normal in any way, but this experiment isn't stable. It changed forms another time already. It also doesn't seem to be able to communicate with us.Moonburn didn't tell me where he got it from, he just told me that it's important that I take care of it. Well, Moonburn, I also have a new addition to our team. His name is Spectrogram, a Marsh Cadogre. He came to me and - in his own words - applied for becoming a part of the household. He said he wanted a space to work on his electronic music. Anyone who works hard is welcome in my home, so I gave him a place in the basement. He seems to be content with what he has now. Bifrost is starting to settle in. As Kumos do, he looks up to me in my values and tries to be as useful in the household as he can. He has been keeping track of what the other pets are doing while Chroma and I are away, and now he even runs the little flea market shop where I sell all my superfluous items. He's still a bit shy, but he tries his best to take care of everyone in his way. Spectrogram never leaves the basement. He's working whenever I check on him and there's a constant faint beat coming from downstairs. I even found a small job for Sparkworld, they let her help out at the bakery, while making sure not to overwork her. She's still young after all. She likes to play with the still-shifting experiment. At first I didn't want her to annoy it, but I think it likes her. I don't really know what to do with it, so maybe she will. Something odd happened today. Chroma and I were ready to go on our daily errands. I opened the door and on our porch sat a viciously grinning, blood-stained Feli. She stood face to face with Chroma as she told us she didn't like what we're doing. She said her name was Chrimson. She said she would stop us before we become "Too many." She hissed her words into Chromas face, who didn't think of backing off. After a moment that felt like an eternity, Chrimson stopped her staredown and left. I don't know what to think of this. All pets were upset by Chrimsons appearance. Moon kept insisting on following that Feli to find out what's going on. I wanted to wait until we had all calmed down. But in the end Moon won. I've decided to send Bifrost with him. Hopefully his calm nature with keep Moon from doing anything reckless. I waited anxiously for my pets to return. I didn't even go out today.I stared down the walls and waited. Noon passed and I waited. I waited and watched TV - or rather, the TV and I both existed in the same room while I was thinking about the absent pets. The sun went down, they finally returned. And they didn't look happy. Hesitantly they told me. There's a gang of strays ruling the streets of this district. And they've targeted us. Chrimson is their leader - and if her bloodred color is anything to go by, she is no one to be messed with. Moonburn is gone.I hope he isn't in trouble. What am I saying - I know he is. I know exactly that he went to sniff out more information about Chrimson by himself. He speaks so highly about caring for others and now he just goes and leaves Sparkworld behind for this crazy solo mission. If he isn't back by tomorrow we will come and rescue him. Guess who's back? Not Moonburn. Chrimson showed up on our porch again, together with a bunch of her henchman, some Graveyard Pets, a few Nightmare ones, and a Hydrus Sheeta. "Did you miss me?", she said. "We found your little spy among us. Good for you, I want to see what you're made of. So I'm giving you three days to get him back. If you fail, you'll never see him again." We will see him again, Chrimson, we will. Ahem. This is #404 Quiana, signing in. I tried to keep the Situation away from Sparkworld, but she was right there when Chrimson showed up. I didn't want this kind of darkness in her life so soon. She comforts herself by telling the experiment about what happened. It's still not stable, but it seems to really enjoy Sparks attention, and Spark seems to enjoy figuring it out. I've talked to Asmodeus about its instability and he's looking into it. Chroma, Bifrost and I are trying to come up with a rescue plan for Moon, but it's not that easy, considering we hardly know our enemy. I don't know the last time I went anywhere without Chroma. I sent her off together with Bifrost to find Moonburn. I tried to distract myself with work, as usual. At least I finally got what I need to bring Spectrograms life to the next level. Chroma and Bifrost came back in the evening - with good news! It seems like not all strays fully stand behind Chrimson. The Hydrus Sheeta who accompanied her last time has offered us his help. Tomorrow is the last day. We will get our Montre back. Chroma and Bifrost met up with Harrassment, the Hydrus Sheeta. He took them to Chrimsons underground lair in the sewers, pretending that they are with him. Chrimson spotted them immediately. She jumped down from her throne of trash to see the trio face to face. The feli crept around the pets as she congratulated Harrassment for tricking Chroma and Bifrost into openly entering the lair. A bunch of stray pets encircled them, baring their teeth. Chrimson commanded attack and a slur of dark bodies devoured my pets. Then, a white dash rose in the edge of the room - Moonburn. He glided to my other pets, covering them with his wings. He snarled and struck down the next best stray with a swing of his paw. Chroma and Bifrost joined in. My pets didn't stand a chance, there were dozens of strays attacking them. They fought their way to the exit and the fight turned into a chase. That's where Chroma gained the advantage, as she navigated the others through the city until the strays had lost their track. Surprisingly, no one is badly wounded. We're all back together now. This is #404 Quiana, signing in. I'm happy to have Moonburn back. I'm happy that Sparkworld has him back. Still, I had to confront Moonburn over his behaviour. Even though he acted in good intentions, it caused more harm than it helped. He snapped back at me and asked me since when I care so much about the group instead of my work. So much gratitude for my rescue mission. She came back. But today she didn't stop at our porch. She walked straight into the common area of my small house. She spoke to us."You've angered me. Don't underestimate us because of your one, little victory." She spat out her words. Sparkworld cowered between the experiment and Moon. She looked at one, then the other. Then she stormed forward to tell Chrimson to the face that we wont be intimidated by her. She didn't even finish her sentence. Chrimson struck her down. Moonburn jumped forward, but the blood-stained Feli pushed the poor kids head to the floor. "I'm only letting her alive so I can destroy you all at once. You have one last chance. If your little group still exists the next time I'm back, well..." she tightened her grip on Spark. Then she let her go and left. Chroma stood there, frozen, after Chrimson left. She said she had seen how many strays there were. There was no way we could win against them. Moonburn was staring down at his feet, unable to face the shame of seeing Sparkworld hurt. Bifrost looked up to me and asked what we should do. I didn't have an answer. When the experiment saw Sparkworld, it started shifting like crazy. Light rays beamed out of it. Spark pulled herself up, in fear for her friend, and shouted the name she had given it - Kampos. When it heard that, one last wild swirl engulfed it. Then it stabilized - as a monstrous #84. It lowered its head towards Spark. She, in turn, stretched out towards it, tearing up, saying that she'll fine. Kampos layed its head on hers, then it looked at me. Its eyes are at the same height as mine. It looked ready to do whatever it takes to bring Chrimson down. We are all prepared. Even Spectrogram is here to help. We wont seek Chrimson out. We will wait here. Ambushing the strays in my own home. If we deliver one strike big enough to intimidate, maybe Chrimson will loose her support. We will fight, with all we got. This is our calm before the storm. They came storming into our hall. Chroma, Bifrost, Moonburn and Spectrogram charged at them. The surprise worked, but only for a moment, and not on Chrimson. She turned around and swiped her claws over Chromas cheek. Chroma hissed at her, asking why she had to do this. Chrimson just moved into attack. I released our weapon: Kampos steered into the hall, Sparkworld sitting on its neck, telling it where to go. They towered over the fighting pets. With a sweep of its tail Kampos threw over a bunch of them, but that didn't help for long. About five smaller Graveyard and Nightmare pets got up again and started attacking and climbing the #84, Sparkworld terrified on top. It tried to shake them off, a massive shape flailing all those smaller bodies, but they were too strong. As they reached its shoulders Kampos curled up and light emerged from the holes in its body. A bright blast emerged from it and incapacitated everyone. Now hold on! What? This is it! What is going on?#404 Quiana here, and you are breaking way too much! #84s aren't that tall! And you most certainly have no right to decide on their powers!! But I'm just telling their sto-Mayhem is what you are doing! May-Hem! And I will stop it now! What will you do, report it to the admins?... They don't care, do they?Listen, I think you need to relax. As Kampos realized what it had done it nervously stepped around, distressed. It looked down and Spark, then over to Chroma and nudged her. It tucked its tail between its legs and started whimpering. Then Chroma started moving again. Everyone slowly woke up. Chrimson, back on her feet, yelled "What are you waiting for? Keep up the attack!" A voice arose from the pets. "No." Harrassment, the Hydrus Sheeta, got up and stared at her. "You said they were a threat to us. But look at them." he looked towards Kampos. "They care for each other." Chrimson looked weak on her legs and stared wildly. "But... But..." The other strays started to awkwardly leave the room. As the bodies moved past Chrimson, she broke down to the floor.A couple of moments later, Only Chrimson and Harrassment remained. The Hydrus Sheeta turned to me and said "I know that, by the nature of being a Hydrus, im not the good kind of guy. But I've been working on myself. And I want to improve more. Would you help me?" I agreed to taking him in. Then the attention turned to Chrimson, still buried in her loss."What are we gonna do with her?" someone asked. "It's hard to have your values destroyed" I said. "We should give her space to grow, too." It's been a while. Harrassment is a gardener, and Moonburns best friend. Sparkworld takes care of Kampos, who is finally stable. Qiana is still overwhelmed by most of the world, but now she has a way to vent. I still hardly see Spectrogram, but now he's out on stage. Bifrostbite organizes us all. Chroma and I are still out and about on our way to the Blue Building, and today we have Chrimson with us. We wanted to see if the Adoption center has a job for her. It doesn't seem to be her thing. But something else is: A Darkonite being housed here. Sure, why not. We've got space for one more. Hello Darigen, welcome to our wonderful mess of a family. THE END |
