Am I pretty...?

The legend of the Slit-Mouthed Woman is one of vanity and (misplaced) revenge. Many years ago, there was a very beautiful (and vain) woman living in Japan. Her husband became concerned that such a beautiful wife as his must be sleeping around; consumed with jealousy, he came to her bedside while she was asleep and, using a pair of scissors, slit her mouth from ear to ear. She awoke screaming in agony. Her husband simply shouted, "Who will love you now (with a face such as this)?"

She died that night, but it is said that she is still seen wandering the cities of Japan. She travels with a doctor's mask covering her mouth, and she will stop young children in the street to ask them if they think she's pretty. Seeing only her eyes and hair, the answer is of course "Yes!" She then rips off her mask, exposing her wound, and asks the question again. "Am I pretty...?"

Regardless of the answer given, she mercilessly murders her victims in one of two ways: Chopped in half if the answer is no, or slitting the mouth to match her own for a yes.

Welcome to The Black Parade is one of my favorite concept albums, and through the expression of style in which they portrayed the darker ideals of how parades were originally celebrated, I felt that it was the perfect way to express my love for the music, the band and the cosplay.
