The Delphi Museum of Modern Art

The Xotl

By: Yaotl Ali'au

Medium: Gouache on paper collage

Yaotl Ali'au, or Al to those that knew him best (which was no one, as he was an Omen Island recluse and hermit) was believed to have been gifted a large supply of craft paper for his 75th birthday. Or it's possible that he made the paper himself by chewing up pieces of palm tree and turning the bark-spit into crude paper. No one can really be sure, but the Delphi Museum is proud to now own in its collection this beautiful and deep piece of art. The Xotl is a master work that describes life: the hardships, the trials, the tribulations. And how, in the end, you'll just end up cutting up paper and making shapes.
