How forum points work

Forum points are the currency you earn on the forums and spend at the Forum Point Shop on items you can't get anywhere else.

Four ways to earn them

  1. Start a topic worth reading

The first new topic you create each day in any Social Scene forum (Screen & Stage, Sound Booth, Library, Game Night, or Life Outside Subeta) earns you a forum point. The topic needs at least 200 characters of body text, roughly a short paragraph. One-liners don't count.

    +1 / day
  2. Jump into a conversation

Your first real reply each day in a Social Scene forum earns a point too, the same way starting a topic does. It needs at least 200 characters of body text. One-liners don't count.

    +1 / day
  3. Get five different people talking

When five different people reply to a topic you started in Social Scene, you earn a bonus. Once per topic, ever.

    +3 / topic
  4. Get a post boosted

Boosters can drop 1, 3, or 5 points on any post in any forum: a question, a reply, a Forum Games post, whatever caught their eye. You'll get an event when it lands on one of yours.

    +1 / +3 / +5

What's worth a point

Posts that help someone. Good questions. A reply that gets a stuck thread unstuck. Someone taking the time to be kind to a new player. Anything that makes the forums a place people want to come back to.

The daily bonuses are built so they can't be farmed. One point for your first topic and one for your first real reply, once a day each, only in Social Scene, only on a real post of at least 200 characters. One-word reply spam in mega-threads still doesn't earn anything automatically.

Boosts are quiet by design. There's no leaderboard, no public points-on-this-post badge, no top-poster of the month. The reward is the currency you spend at the shop. Boosting exists so the "nice post!" signal isn't only coming from staff, and a Booster's points get pulled if they're handed to friends instead of good posts.

How Boosting works

Most nights, the site draws a handful of people at random from everyone who posted that day and hands them a few points to give out. Post something real and you might wake up a Booster for the day.

It isn't a rank and it isn't permanent. It rotates, and the more people post, the more people get a turn. Staff can also hand the buttons to someone directly when they keep spotlighting great posts, but the nightly draw is how most Boosting happens now.

Are you today's Booster?

Then those five points are yours, to give out however you want. Someone wrote a post that taught you something? Drop +5 on it. See a player having a rough day? Hand them +3, just because. Made you laugh? +1. There's no checklist for what counts. It's whatever you think is worth it.

You'll see these next to every post while you've still got points to give. They're good through the end of the day, so spend them. Don't sit on them.

Common questions

What counts as a "fresh topic"?
Any new topic in a Social Scene forum with at least 200 characters of body text (about a short paragraph after stripping BBCode and whitespace). One-line topics don't qualify.
When does the daily bonus reset?
Midnight Subeta time, which is Eastern. If you posted today's bonus topic at 11pm Subeta time, your next bonus is available an hour later.
Do replies earn points automatically?
Your first real reply each day in a Social Scene forum earns +1, the same way the first topic does (at least 200 characters of body text). Beyond that, replies earn points when a Booster gives them one: answers, help, kindness.
Do Forum Games posts earn points?
Not from the automatic bonus. A Booster can still boost one if a post stands out.
How do I become a Booster?
You don't apply. Post real things in the forums and you're in the nightly draw. The more you take part, the better your odds.
Can I lose forum points I've already earned?
No. Points you've earned stay yours.
How do I check my balance?
On the Forum Point Shop.
What if a Booster is playing favorites?
Tell me. A Booster's points get pulled if they're handed to friends instead of good posts, and I'd rather hear about it than not.

What changed (May 2026)

Until May 2026, every reply you posted had a small random chance (about 1 in 20) of dropping a forum point. That mechanic is retired.

The reason: a guide that helped half the site and a one-word reply in a "post the number after the user before you" chain paid out exactly the same way. The random hand-out couldn't tell them apart. Now your first topic and your first real reply each day earn a point you can count on, and Boosters cover the rest by spotting the posts worth more.

Old forum points you already have are unaffected.
