Stone Golems Rereleased!
We are the women of the Secluded Shrine, Yumiko and Kuwabara. Have you chanced upon a battle challenge that has proven difficult with only your pets and limited weapons? A scroll is something that can help you out in this. They can attack, heal, freeze…many things that could help you achieve that win you would otherwise have not.
Talking of battling - would you perhaps help us out with something that is currently plaguing us? We woke the stone golems in order to play with some new scroll features we’ve been working on. They’re not yet ready, but we’d rather the stone golems were quietened now. Please can you silence them for us? You can keep anything that they drop as a reward. We'll work on a spell to defeat them that will be ready by the end of the month, in case you are not successful.
For more information on battling, visit HERE. We hope to see you in the future.

Yumiko is so gorgeous, I love her craggy face ;w;
(Geez people I'm 100% British, given a Greek name at birth and currently toting a Hebrew one, names travel, particularly on a planet settled by humans, get over it).

I love these revamps! Please don't stop. The old art was nice and the artist who did them was great. These revamp though, are just so cool~ *bows down*
I'd also like to point to what Muerte said for all the people screaming cultural appropriation. They could be mixed for all you know. It's a real problem for mixed people that don't always look like what people think they should. Genetics are cool like that.
Also, so what if they have a Japanese name? Since when has it been wrong to name someone with another language in mind? Keep in mind that people can grow up with all different backgrounds.

I had a blast blasting through these guys :) What a great way to rack up sP for all of my pets as well as a great chance to battle some retired baddies. Plus: BOOKS :D :D :D

@BoaConstrictor these challengers will dissappear at the end of the month. I misunderstood what they said too, and thought we were going to get a new nifty scroll, but this is not the case, per Amber way near the beginning of these comments.
I had to re-armory myself three times to get them all with all my pets. I was tempted to wait later until they could all use the same tier weaponry, but since they're gone in ten days I figured nail them all now for the 18KXP.

I actually REALLY like the character designs, but the naming makes literally no sense to me. Unless their names are titles? It's... highly unlikely that BOTH of them would have a Japanese parent, but I guess it could be the case. Not sure what the issue would be with making the names suit the characters more or the other way around. The way it is, it just seems kind of pointless and indulgent, like... you just wanted cute Japanese names and didn't care how you fit them in. I dunno.

Oh my, did Yumiko just aged 50 years and turned male after being too long under the sun?
Well, if we disregard the "before", the new look is awesome.

*wonders if Reischen from battle quests will get an update*
I was just thinking to myself the other day I wondered if the this part of the site will get a makeover. Sure enough the next day it did :). Amazing how they did that XD. It's like a Nori and Mori type of thing with one seen during the day and other at night. Great job on the artwork ^_^.

Quote by Amber:
In that case, I don't understand why you'd create a second NPC for a feature that doesn't get a ton of use. (Or at least I don't think it does? The battle community is small enough that updates are constantly back-burnered, and once you make a couple scrolls you're pretty much done with the Secluded Shrine.)During the day Yumiko handles the scrolls while at night Kuwabara is around!
Don't get me wrong, Kuwabara looks like a great NPC. I just don't understand where she fits in or why she exists?

Still loving these redesigns! Lots more personality and individuality and general character than the older anime art.

I'd just like to say that I'm very, very, very happy to see a huge group of lower-level opponents added to the challenger roster! I, myself, have several tier 1 pets that I'm trying to train up purely through battle (it's way more fun and immersive than paying a tab and waiting around or emptying your coffers on stat boosters), and this has been super helpful! Thank you so much! ^_^

@Hoshi
Since I was the only one to use the term weeaboo I'm guessing you're talking to me. I feel like I should explain that my personal issue has nothing to do with the fact that the name is specifically Japanese. It could have been German, or Romanian, or Mexican, or anything else. As long as it was heavily created from a real world influence I would have said something. I merely mentioned the "weeaboo" factor or Japanese influence becase in Subeta's early days they were heavy influenced by anime in their art and Japanese mythos and lore in their items and such. So Subeta itself as a fictional entity didn't really have any sort of identity.
So my personal issue has nothing to do with appropriation or whatever all those tumblr terms are, I could care less about that. What I care about is building on Subeta's story and creativity to have a better sense of immersion for the player. And like I said, if you're going to take the time to think of a name with a second/third meaning (I love that dedication, by the way), you could have instead spent your time thinking about how she fit into Subeta lore. Saherimos is one of my favorite places on Subeta because, even if we don't have a lot of information, it, along with Omen Islands, are pretty much the most fleshed out locations and societies. So I'm disappointed that that wasn't taken into account.

How is Subeta making fun of Japanese culture by using these names? They aren't. They're not perpetuating misinformation or doing anything negative by using the names.

Ahaha, the sword's wrapped. I missed that for some reason. Thought it was the blade itself. Nevermind. xD

My only question / concern is like how is Kuwabara able to hold that sword? Is it not sharp around the edges? :O Think of her fingers!
Otherwise, I love the Yumiko revamp and Kuwabara's art. The problem with the old art was they all looked the same and therefore were without personality. Different looks (jawline, cheekbones, noses, etc.) makes each one look more memorable. So major props for this direction in revamps! :)

Yumiko ... changed a lot. For me, it's not that she's "ugly", it's just that she's so different than she had been before. Always throws me off when NPCs make dramatic design changes. But I'm sure it'll grow on me.
I like Kuwabara though. I love meeting new NPCs, I like her juxtaposition with Yumiko, I love her color contrasts, and, ehehe, the sword she's holding stood out to me first about her - it's all wrapped up, but it's so big! WHAT IS IT? WHAT?
Anyway personality wise, these two seem like they're pretty cool, so all in all, I'm happy. Oh, and more book/beanbags are always a good thing for me. It makes me so happy that you're having NPCs do more, say more, because there's nothing that satisfies me as much as great characters.

You know your user base has gone off the Tumblr/SJW deep end when people are ecstatic about fat and ugly NPC revamps but grouse that they retained their original names (which are just SO WEEABOO, ugh anything Japanese-inspired is for 14 y/o fangirls kill it with fire amirite).

I guess it all depends on HOW the critique is made. I don't think anyone would get a shitstorm if they would say in good words that they don't like a revamp for whatever reasons. (But in the end it often depends on the persons involved, because people are often biased and will attack anyone for their opinion... and that's just sad.)

TheGapingMawOfDoom
I love how human these two are. We have enough npcs that fit the modern feminine beauty standards so it's nice to see Yumiko break that pattern.

It's just if you don't like the revamps you get so much shit from everyone. So everybody is totally not entitled to their opinions in here, only those who love them! Even rude opinions are opinions. And people are once being so dramatic about it. Not liking a fictional character =/= hating every single fat person in the world.
And people clearly got something against those who are beautiful, skinny and have no flaws on their skin and so on.

@Jimmy
I can't speak for everyone here, but I have no hate at all towards people that others might call "pretty". What is pretty anyways? Everyone has different views, but I think what we call "pretty" by now is the standard depicted by social media?
It is just that it gets to a point where it is just ridiculous if every character is flawless (and I again not only relate to Subeta) when in reality there is so much diversity. (:

I really love them (and I didn't say this, but I also really loved the Oracles update). I love that the female characters are getting more diverse, even in the revamp. I especially love Kuwabara.
As much as I would have loved Yumiko to be modeled after someone who is Japanese, these characters could still arguably have a parent from Subeta's equivalent. FUN FACT, you can be mixed ethnically and look "native ____" and have people go "OH MY GAW LIKE YOU'RE _____ ?!?!?!" Most people do that with me because I'm pale and I don't talk how they would want me to. My cousin has milk white skin, dirty blonde hair, and blue eyes, and that does not change the fact that her mom is black. Most people looking at Pete Wentz don't realize his mom is Afro-Jamaican.
It'd be offensive if they were done to mock the culture. But then again, that is an argument that someone who is Japanese should be making. Not me. And most certainly not someone who is probably ten times more prone to cultural appropriation.

Okay.... Things I like: art revamp as a thing; Kuwabara's new look (also her name - Yu Yu Hakusho anyone? xD); battle opponents YAY ♥!
Thinks I don't like: Yumiko's new design. I liked her better when she was pretty :/ I guess age didn't agree with her. I only recognized her because of the pot she's holding. Sorry.

@Teacher I've defeated all of them 10X and one I just kept fighting for shits and giggles so I'm at 72. After the 10th time they don't drop items anymore but they do give you 5 exp points and every once in a while an easy token. So no, there really isn't that much benefit to fighting them more than 10 times unless you want to rack up some exp or boost your pet's stat count.

smh at all the Yumiko nay sayers.
not every woman is soft, small, round faced, young and typically cute/beautiful, or your frankly gross view point of what "looks like a woman" lmao
I'm so glad to see more characters in revamps that look so different and looking less "cookie cutter" with details to differentiate them. I'm loving that we're moving away from all that and going into an actual diverse cast of NPCs like it should be. <3

Any point to defeating these guys more than 10 times? Are you going to bring back the other Saherimos plot challengers too? I'd love to pit my Alexondra against them again and get some wins in on the ones I couldn't go near then. Seriously loving this return as it was my first plot so it has sentimental value for me ;)

I love everything about all of this except the names of the NPCs. I guess one of them has been around since Subeta was in its weeaboo phase, so it is only right that it be grandfathered in, but I'm very disappinted with Kuwabara. Especially with her skin color, she looks like she'd be a native. This all just seems like a step back lore-wise and a step pretty far back into Subeta's weeaboo phase. I'm all for Japanese influences and crap, but when you introduced an entire language for the Sacred Lands, it would have been nice to have introduced more unique names besides a name that apparently is a common Japanese phrase?
Especially if she's indigenous, Saherimos is known to be fairly secluded and not heavily influenced by outside lands and governments.
I'm still reading the comments and trying to find out information from the feeble attemps Subeta has undergone to give this site some decent lore, so this comment might just be ranty and obnoxious. But I really did feel like we were getting somewhere and I realize a name of an NPC that probably won't be brought up except for a revamp in 6 years isn't much, but it's something when it could just have easily gone forward in a direction to give us a little more insight on Sacred Land lore.
LIKE WHY HAVE A JAPANESE SAYING WHEN YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A SAHERIMOS SAYING?!?!!?!? That would have been very fun and cute.

I'd be happy to field the question about names, actually! Yumiko was the original name of the NPC before revamp, and I figured she may as well keep it - there's no rule that says whoever her parents are weren't effected by human influence and there's really no harm in it, imo (I mean, why not? My name is Jessica, but I'm not Hebrew, and have no Hebrew roots that I know of!). Then I thought, well, if we're going to let one badass battle matron keep her name, why not pull that same influence into another character, and give a fun excuse to pull in a little bit of trivia with it.

Yumiko and Kuwabara are gorgeous.
Incidentally, I've had mulberries before, I had one of the trees growing in my back yard at a previous residence here in Phoenix, where they grow pretty well. The berries are very earthy and delicious as long as you don't eat too many in one go.

What's a stat cap?
The stat cap is a “roof†on your pet’s growth. As of Dec 2014, the stat cap is 22k total stats. Only Strength, Defense, Speed, and Health count. Level and Intelligence do not. Once your pet is capped, you’ll only be able to boost Level and Intel.
