just click on the words "free gift" in the news post :)

Ohio was not one of the states where you could see the full eclipse. I never got the glasses. I made myself stay inside, the rebel kid in me wanted to look at it, consequences be damned. But, I enjoy the ability to see. lol

I saw the eclipse, I don't understand how to get the free gift??

far

Didn't see anything at all lmao but thanks!

Taters

I was super surprised we had up to 99.2% in pdx. I thought only those in southern oregon would see much, but sounds like even states farther off saw a bit at least! Though I bet it was more fun because I was at the childrens museum today. All the kids were way more in to it than I expected. Usually attention spans dont last a full hour in that age range lol!

Still wish I could have seen it as a total eclipse, but ey! Close enough. And I got to make fun crafts in the process with some cool little friends.

I'm soooooooooo jealous just cause I'm all the way in the UK >=(

Temerat

I ended up sharing the glasses with some neighbors x'DD 3 of whom said this was their only chance in their life as they're too old... so yeah ;-; did not expect that when I woke up

I'm in Oklahoma and I went out to try taking pictures and see if I could view it that way... A lady hopped out her car and handed me some glasses? ;o; so nice. She said they were extra and they were about to be worthless anyway so might as well share<3
People on the neighborhood facebook were trying to sell them for $40 ;x ain't nobody got time for that

Hope you guys will do this during the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse as well! :D I'll be in totality then in Arkansas, so I hope others in that area get to see it without clouds! I had to watch most of the coverage thanks to the Weather Channel since I didn't get the special shades in time.
1

Calm

Thank you! We had 96% totality here and it was cloudy all morning but the clouds broke just enough to see the pinnacle of the eclipse; it was pretty special. :)

Thanks for the cute minion. I was inside today, but peeked out and it just looked odd. Enjoyed following the coverage on CNN.
1

Hunger

Yay, thanks for the free gift!
Here we saw a partial eclipse(maybe 60%?) I saw it briefly through a welding helmet, lol. And I made a cereal box pinhole projector, which really sucks compared to actually being able to see it but it's ok I guess if it's the only way XD
I really wish I could have seen the total eclipse..
1

RNA

Texas only had a partial eclipse, but it was still interesting to see the gaps in the leaves turn crescent-shaped.
1

ChibiStraws

I totally forgot the eclipse, lol. Oops

Hazard

YAY!!
2

Stiles

Aw yay! I was wondering if there would be something for this :) Thank you <3
2

Ryuu

Too late, I already checked out the other news post. ;)
But seriously, something something Fire Nation I made a pinhole viewer because I can't trust my already horrible vision to whether or not the local stores or places online bothered to sell or give away real and working glasses. Had 98% here! It was nice! :D

And don't forget! It was not a once-in-a-lifetime thing; eclipses happen every so often! They're not like Halley's Comet, which is pretty close to being a one time event. The, er, "only impressive thing" (really though, they're always neat) about this one was the way it sliced across the lower 48 like it did.
There will be plenty more in the US in the future. :D Well, as long as you can survive a few more years. For example, Carbondale IL had brief totality today (a word I've heard more in the past day than in many years. haha.). & Carbondale will have the same thing happen again in 2024. (now, that's closer to being a rare thing!)
In 2045, there should be another slice-across-the-lower-US event. You just need to not die before then. ♥️

Check out Fred Espenak's map here, because it's too large to just post.
Or, check out NASA's recorded streams here!

Frenchi

my accomplishment was staying inside all day because (1) i'm lazy and (2) i was scared to accidentally look at the sun and destroy my eyeballs.

I'm done now with the meme dump lol.
We wanted to see the eclipse too but the clouds were in the way, as you might have guessed.

Maybe more like almost a heatstroke :c Eyeballs are fine if you don't count going cross-eyed from all the photos I took... Here's a gif I made from them. I think I have it going correctly.

Although we only got like 60% eclipse here, so it only got about as dark as it would during a regular afternoon thunderstorm. Nothing too special :P
