Summer is almost here... and the CW Pawn Shop!

Summertime Freeze Pops
As a special treat to celebrate the start of Summer, we are going to have the Custom Wearable Pawn Shop open from Saturday June 20 to Saturday June 27. While we won’t give you the exact time the shop will be opening, it will close at 11:59pm on the 27th.

Remember that you won’t be able to sell any custom wearables while the CW Pawn Shop is open, so if you’ve got some to offload you should do it now!

It's got the link for the CW Pawn Shop up now, but when I click on it, it says "Oh No!
The pawn shop isn't open right now."

But he's not taking any more CW's now... O.o?

While I'm also echoing what everyone else is saying, I would also like to add that perhaps it'd be (very) nice to give consideration to users (further) outside in different time zones. I've wasted most of my day checking in on this site, and now basically know that it's been dumb because of course it's going to be opened in the evening for yall, so idk what I was thinking.

Maybe just something to consider. For the next time.
8

DimDim

I'm honestly too old to wait for a shop where I buy pixels with real money (cash) and you can put them on, that's about it ... in 2 hours the day is over here, well, it's time relatively ...
we then meet in the forum to exchange frustration postings because the pages fail, the server keeps crashing or our favorite ad ... ERROR ...
I watch tv, at least that works ...

@StarShadow I can't speak for them but amber did say that they're not doing them monthly anymore so who knows when the next one will be?

@Jasper
Will be watching for it to open. :) No bonus weekends? I thought they said just that there wouldn't be one in May.
0

Jasper

@StarShadow They said they won't be stating when it opens, but my money's on 8PM tonight. (which sucks for me because I've been up all night waiting for it to open.) I don't know why they're being so coy and secretive with this and with bonus weekend's never coming back (though perhaps it's to prevent crashing? We shouldn't have to avoid that by now, it's been nearly 20 years of this problem but I digress.) Subeta just keeps making mistakes lately and it's beyond me as to why they think they've been helpful.
1

Saturnine

I think the last time it opened at like 4 PM Subeta time.

StarShadow

Wasn't this supposed to open today?
0

DimDim

since the post i'm looking forward to the shop, but again nothing, no shop open, no info how and if it goes on and since you have, or hopefully, learned from the last crash time, you have announced as a precaution not to mention any opening time . very clever, so there is no need to apologize if the event does not work again and only brings problems. that seems so familiar to me. I was always looking forward to events, but now I only dread it because you know what's coming. it is questionable whether it encourages people to buy cash. It is late here and I don’t feel like waiting hours until someone decides to do something. we still have a few days, let's see how many of them work
3

potata

honestly at this point all i see is just reckless decisions, one after another; extreme lack of transparency and overall bad management. it's like you guys are doing this on purpose for the site to actually close
13

Narshe

I love how it's extremely clear staff is watching this thread but there has been no additional response to it other then Keith's on:
https://subeta.net/forums.php/gotopost/64760926
I'm unsure how or why there can't be any additional responses to enlighten us more on the situation. Having been a moderator before on previous sites, this kind of shadiness is extremely unprofessional and disconnected to the community. You can't even wonder why they are upset when you aren't even trying to talk to them.
11

Saturnine

This was announced and I still don't think the daily support goal reached 50% for the past 2 days :(
3

And once again, we are greated by absolute silence. The opening will be pushed and change will be made, regardless of the userbase.
This speaks volume about the site to me.

@Amber @Bug
MAYBE I'm slow, but how the heck do you take out items from your wardrobe since ORGANIZE is not usable.
0

VOLTAGE

I really usually don't bother commenting, but this situation seems to be primarily disadvantageous to the site!
By removing bonus weekends permanently (with users having to scourge through obscure news post comments to figure it out) and by not implementing anything to replace it, users wouldn't have much incentive to buy csc in order to purchase from the pawn shop.
It may seem like the pawn shop opening would be incentive enough- but it really isn't. The technical difficulties with the site and wardrobe, combined with the still too fresh in people's memory disappearing item fiasco, alongside the covid-19 pandemic. Really, I think the site is depending too much on the goodwill of regular CSC/CW buyers in this case, but this will not be enough to keep the site afloat.

Please reconsider doing a one off csc bonus weekend to coincide with the opening of the pawn shop- I really don't think there are any benefits at the moment to playing hardball. I understand that while bonus weekends weren't a good business model in the longterm, it wouldn't be a bad thing to receive some extra money from the pawn shop opening- that is supposed to be a profitable time for the site.
32

CassieFenix

Well, I might be able to afford one or two CW if there's any that I want this time around. I know I found a few that I liked last time it was around.
0

Delirium

I like how I had to read the comments section to find out what the heck is going on instead of a staff post explicitly stating that bonus weekend is gone forever, and not just last month like we were lead to believe.
I love y'all but come on.
18

Narshe

My main issue here is even IF staff had said something in comments regarding there not being anymore Bonus Weekend, there was no official announcement regarding it. It is stated in the last announcement that May was to be affected, not that it was removed permanently. I severely dislike when the connection between staff and the userbase is so disconnected, staff just ASSUMES the best decision without any heads up or notice. "We already did this and you have to deal with it." Is the constant mood staff gives the impression of in regards to their userbase.

Not to mention bringing out the pawnshop in a time where the wardrobe function has been nearly UNUSABLE is a bit of a cash grab move. Why promote the sell of cws when most users are still have multiple issues with even getting into their inventories? It's just...outrageous.

Removing bonuses won't get me to completley remove my support from the site because I love supporting the artist base here. However, the removal will get me to never donate as heavily towards the site all at once. I mean what's the point? The incentives from bonus gave me more ease to buying items I want from the pawnshop without breaking bank. And I get it, the model for bonus csc wasn't working but you had since MAY to introduce new ideas to the userbase and so far crickets. This is not even the first time the userbase has dealt with staff leaving 1-3 comments and never getting a response again. Leaving said issue to be swept under a rug.
6

Jasper

What's the matter; CSC became too easily obtainable recently? That's the only reason to do this on such short notice/no notice.
4

Dystopia

we don't really need this right now
14

Quirk

This is such poor timing. If you want people to buy CSC, you should give people a reason to do so. Otherwise, what's in it for us? I get that you're a business and need to make money, but I really hope you don't become like another site I know, and start thinking of us as whales or cash cows. Because if you aren't aware, a LOT of people don't even have a job atm (myself included) and if we're to spend what little money we do have, we want something in return. Quid pro quo.
6

Sekhmet

Thank you for everyone letting me know about the workaround, very helpful.

However, the fact that people need a complicated workaround is ridiculous. Sure, I can use a workaround to remove items, but I shouldn't have to. This is a very basic site feature that should have been fully implemented before the new wardrobe was pushed on us. And judging by "Subeta soon," it will be months, if ever, before this feature returns.

Christ, now no one can edit their shops, either! I have to use the same workaround to remove items from my shop, and cannot change any prices. This means that anyone without a GA and access to the autopricer is super screwed.
12

Jules

@Reaper @frafty @Disasters Thank you for the information... that seems like a very low payout, hmmm to sell there or not... I guess he is a hustler lol
1

piers

subeta is doing more and more things to drive away the userbase, both established users and newcomers. losing bonus weekends is going to be a huge blow, if it hasn't been already (i have very rarely bought CSC outside of a bonus weekend); and then there was the wardrobe calamity, and we haven't been shown proof of any steps taken to keep such a disaster from happening again; and now, a CW sale when the site is barely functioning and there's legitimately NO incentive to fund it? the wardrobe is broken, and yet they want us to buy more things to put in the broken wardrobe?

and to top it all off, there is no considering of user opinion on any issues anymore; staff just do things without publicly asking if it would benefit the userbase in any way. this place has become nothing more than a cash grab with no reason to actually contribute. why would i pay for a product that i can only use a third of the time?
22

Julie

The only reason I don’t buy too many ear items is the 700 price tag. But I do have some rabbit and cat ears. Lol.
0

LadyMeridius

Count me in the crowd that thought the bonus weekends were only pausing in May. I usually throw a $20 to get the extra cash and bonus item. I will clearly be buying a lot less now =/

But yay, CW pawn shop? The wardrobe is buggy AF...I don't even bother making a new one as it ceases to function while Im in the middle of everything, so that has cut some of my fun here as well.

I feel like there's a lot of stuff being tried to make things better, but its backfiring.
13

Targaryen

Well heads up staff I do not buy CSC now! I think they are way overpriced! I sell items and buy CSC cards from shops with SP! I sell my CWs and buy new ones or do not purchase them. I will buy CSC when bonus weekends start back up or not buy it! So I do not care. I am here to battle and dress my HA.
8

Blake

@Starscream
I use paypal as a middleman, but I 100% understand. You have to do what's safest and most comfortable for you! I'm sorry to hear you've had trouble with identity theft in the past. :(

For me bonus weekends were like, the closest value to my dollar that I could get, i.e. 50$USD is currently about 80$AUD, so I was more likely to go for that higher tier option than my usual 25$USD (about 35$AUD). I was also more likely to impulse buy higher amounts if I needed it for something (although I do have a hard cap on "fun" spending in my budget).

Admittedly, me spending less as a result of the removal of bonus weekends is a good thing for me, but not so much for Subeta.
8

Cathii

Echoing what everyone else has said so far.

Bonus weekend disappearing so suddenly was also followed by a statement that "new changes to CSC prices and CWs would come soon". We've all been patiently waiting for an alternative to bonus weekends and it's been a dead end since then. If you're going to remove a feature without offering a new, improved way of distributing CSC, it's basically giving users - who have the money - a slap in the face. The whole reason you removed bonus weekends in the first place was so that you could offer csc at a more consistent pricing - so that income predictions were more steady. Okay, so now where are the much needed changes that were announced?

With no announcement leading to this path, trying to make a sale feels like a double loss.
34

Starscream

@Blake
I get what you're saying, as I have my own RL splurges. I'll be honest, though, sales have never really been much of an incentive of me to part with my money. I have to want it badly enough. Won't deny checking them out, but more often than not, I don't usually buy at sales.

Plus, having had my identity stolen in the past, that's even more of an incentive for me to not want to buy virtual currency with a credit card of any kind. However, as I said, that is my own preference and my own reasons.
0

Blake

While I respect the decision to axe the monthly bonus weekends (the reasoning given in the April post does make sense to me) I feel like some kind of sale would go nicely hand-in-hand with this event. At least then you'd be able to double-dip on the CW crowd as well as people who just want CSC for other things.

That being said, I've already filled out my loyalty cards (you guys don't release those often enough to encourage more frequent spending, gentle hint) so I'm unlikely to buy extra csc just for wearables when the wardrobe is currently in such a half-finished state.

It does bother me a little that what was talked about in the April announcement comments hasn't been touched on since, although I know the pile of bugs caused by the new wardrobe and recent server instability takes priority. I've been waiting specifically to hear about the subscription service, and also the updated CW rules (a market I am interested in breaking into, but won't while the current vaguely defined rules are live). I know things are difficult for everyone right now, but uncertainty is one of the major things that keeps people from opening their wallets.

An aside for @Starscream
Actually, it's not so much about whether you're employed or not, but that the general cash flow is much lower than it usually is, so the money is going to bills first and foremost. Even people who have steady jobs are looking at reduced hours (and thus lower paychecks) right now due to social distancing measures, or if they're American and get sick, horrifying hospital costs.

That's why people are suggesting a sale might tempt them to part with what little spending cash they have. Dumping 10$ here or there for something fun in a game or a take out meal to spice up your daily rice and beans isn't unreasonable even if you're unemployed. Sometimes it's those little things that keep you going.
11

Starscream

Interesting timing, but I'm certainly interested enough to take a look.

I've actually never bought CSC on the site, either employed or unemployed, but I find it puzzling that people would buy CSC when they are unemployed, pandemic or not. I would think that what money one has would go to either bills or other necessities. But that's my personal take.

As for me, I would normally stick to buying the CSC cards with sP or just gifts from others, Morty Cards every so often, and the Bathhouse. Can't say I'm troubled by the Bonus Weekend disappearing for my part, since I never really partook and really just bought the occasional item with sP (or in a few cases was gifted as well).

Though I do agree that news post at the time stating no Bonus Weekend in May was vague, and can't blame those who did enjoy buying the CSC during the bonus weekends for being blindsided by the decision. Not everyone reads the news comments or forums. I only check out the comments if there's truly something I'm interested in, and don't visit most of the forum topics. I imagine others do much the sames.
7

Flygon

Another issue is timing because of time zones for everyone
1

Jai

I have to echo the comments of others. While I remember Subeta staff saying that there wouldn't be monthly CS bonus weekends, I don't remember anyone saying they were gone for good. If that's the case, I think it's a mistake.

It seems like the site is hitting a major lull, and that makes me sad. I love it here and want it to succeed.
20

Saturnine

All that time...I thought April was supposed to be the last Bonus Weekend, but I read the comments where Keith gives some more context and I guess that stuck in my mind as "No more after this!". I went back to the post and the news just says "There will be no bonus weekend in May.", so I absolutely see how people thought May was a one-off month of no BW.

This seems like a badely timed opening to me ...
We have been experiencing issues with stability both for the wardrobe and the site itself for months. The forums are dying and the cw market is not as active as it used to be anymore. There has been a decrease in cws making as well (compared to its prime time). This isn't a great time to buy csc either as a lot of people lost their income because of the pandemic.

I don't buy csc anymore so this isn't me complaining. I just don't get it?

What is the reasoning behind cutting the bonus weekends? I'm pretty sure this period of time was the most profitable to the site as we were reaching (or almost) the daily needed cash to 'keep afloat'. Without this bonus (and the lack of actual PUBLIC announcement), I cannot see people increasing their purchase or their purchasing habits to keep the site alive and well. I get it, we need to pay the people that work on Subeta and the servers/database. However, the lack of transparency and the cutting of benefits as taken its toll on the userbase.

There will be purchase and buyers, yes. But as it is, this isn't going to last.
Just my realistic 2 cents.
19

cassygee

I don’t normally comment on news posts and rarely to complain, however ......
I only became aware yesterday whilst browsing the H&Q threads, that the news post regarding there being no bonus weekend in May actually meant they were being cancelled completely!
I really can’t understand, especially after the recent (and ongoing) wardrobe fiasco where you promised more transparency, how you can think that sneaking this change by again hiding it from the majority of users is going to be any type of win situation for Subeta.
Yes we all love the Pawn Shop, and I would normally be eagerly searching through for goodies to buy, but I’m feeling just now that I’ll give it a miss this time. I understand you need income to keep the site running, and I am normally more than happy to invest but with all this underhandedness I fear you’ve shot yourselves in the foot a little here, and could well end up receiving less income at what should be a very profitable event.
21

frafty

@Jules checking a few things from my wardrobe seems to be 225 for wigs and full backgrounds. I sold a small brooch for 75
1

Reaper

@Jules
It maxes at 250 csc per item if I recall correctly (and is less for small items/items that cost a lower amount to submit). I would check but I cannot access my shop to pull cws out to give you the complete range. I believe it's 150, 200, 225, and 250. But there may be some that sell for as low as 75.
1

Jules

How much does the pawn shop pay for a CW?
1

Valiska

@Sekhmet

First of all, fskcking enter key.

https://subeta.net/wardrobe_items.php is the URL to the old organise items page, which still works.

@Amber

I understand concerns about site income and overly frequent sales, but I have to question the reasoning that led staff to start dropping the bonus weekends while half the world is out of work. I know that some of the staff are essential workers, as am I, and still have income, but a lot of other people have much less money to spend on fun stuff and could really have used a break. I wish you'd consider doing a bonus weekend while the pawn shop is open. (I know you didn't plan to do this; I'm only asking that it be given some consideration.)

I think it would give you guys a much-needed infusion of hard cash for the site, and I think a lot of the people who have been laid off and are subsisting on unemployment, the kindness of family and friends, or a stimulus check that's barely enough to support one person for one month would be very appreciative.
19

Valiska

1

Nova

Count me in the group that didn't realize the bonus weekends were disappearing completely, and only thought one month was being skipped. I had been waiting for it eagerly for days. I'll buy one or two if they're from my must haves but definitely not the 10+ I normally do during these things. And if they're not great, I'll just save the money. With all that's going on right now, it wouldn't be a bad idea probably for my wallet to skip one for once. I'll lump it in with all the money I'm saving not being able to eat takeaways right now. :) Good luck to everyone that will participate though, I hope you get something lovely!
24

SaboKat

been out of work for a few months lmao though I could try to get a few art commissions in (no guarantees, haven't been having any luck lately)
0

Cresenta

*regrets the pet slot she bought 3 days ago with CSC* x_x
3

Anubis

Adding to the list, the problem is also timing. This site has chosen to remove the bonus weekend during a pandemic. Many are still without work or have hours cut. Now is when the bonus weekend would be beneficial.
45

Lavender

I agree with everything Frenchi said. I think it was another bad move in a series of other bad moves to completely remove bonus weekends before rolling out the price changes. April's notice on May's bonus weekend was unclear and I know many of us thought it would be back June or July and not gone forever. I personally won't be purchasing csc until the new price system is in place or until there is another bonus weekend. I see no reason to purchase csc right now without the bonuses because the site has clearly recognized the flaws of the current pricing system. It is just too expensive to buy things at their current prices without getting the bonuses each month. I very seldomly log in these days, but when I do it's 90% on mobile, and since I can't use the crappy new wardrobe on mobile I can't use any new wearables I purchase anyway.

I'm gonna echo some other people, information on the new cw prices and subscription model would be great. Looking forward to seeing the goodies in the pawn shop
15

Sekhmet

@Knight

Thank you for the tip, but it doesn't work if I can't remember what the CWs I own are called . . .
3

@Sekhmet

If you go to Account Search and type in your item name it gives you the option to place the item in your inventory from wherever it is currently located. Take a bit longer if you have a lot of things you want to move but it works!
3

Sekhmet

So, I need to sell my CWs now, but I can't because you took away the "organize items" tab in the wardrobe. How am I supposed to remove things from my wardrobe now? Great planning, that. >_<
9

Sneaky

You know, we could really do with a forum thread with a list of planned CSC-related changes to make things more clearer, and so we know you haven't forgotten about things like making subscriptions able to give you Loyalty Points, as far as I know they still can't do that and I think it's putting many people off subscribing.
11

Frenchi

Quote by @Amber:
We have no plans to resume bonus weekends monthly...
so why didn't the news post just say that, instead of ONLY stating that there wouldn't be one in may? maybe there was further explanation in the comments, but that's not the same as being fully transparent in the news post to begin with. it makes it sound like you didn't want us to know that upfront. and now having removed that option without proper notification, the CW pawn shop is being opened even though:

1. most users would prefer not to buy CSC during a non-bonus time
2. there is currently no alternative to the bonus weekends, so there's little incentive to buy more CSC until those alternatives are present
3. the wardrobe is partly or fully non-functional for many users
4. the link to the organize wardrobe page has been removed even though it's still the only way to sort and remove wardrobe items, forcing users to rely on bookmarks to access it

had it been clear that april would be the last month with a bonus weekend, and that no replacement would exist for some time afterwards, users could have better planned whether/how much to buy during that bonus weekend instead of thinking "ok, no bonus weekend in may, but maybe june will have cool bonus items so i'll wait until then."
50

Mort

lmaoooo the fear of missing out is gonna kick in, here goes my sleep schedule

So what you're saying is that the site will be lagging so badly it will be unusable for at least June 20-21 and likely beyond that?

Duly noted.
15

feral

Also waiting to see what information we're getting on CW pricing AND the subscription models.
I am at a standstill here. Haven't submitted anything in months now, waiting for some kind of information on what's going on, and we're still on the back burner I guess. I totally get it with everything IRL, but I'm just disheartened and unmotivated to work in a community that's up in the air. :C
13

Disasters

I too would love to see a real update on the lowering of CW prices and direct to shop pricing as it was mentioned it was being looked at.

The pawn shop is great but the CW market overall is dying more and more. We need something to bring it back to life and while the pawn shop may help temporarily it won’t in the long haul.
27

Narshe

I was under the impression from the last staff comments, Bonus Weekend was going to be around still but not every month. Is it really gone permanently? I won't lie, it really kills my drive to donate for csc as frequently without the possible chance of seeing bonus week come by. ):
While I understand the reason for it, I as the consumer, wouldn't be as eager to make heavy donation amounts all at once. Even for the pawn shop, which I normally donate a lot for since bonus comes by at times during it. Though, I guess this time I just will not splurge like I used to.

I know someone is gonna take this as me crying or complaining but bonus weekend was a great incentive for users to donate to the site and for it to be gone, also diminishes my eagerness to participate in the pawn shop. Oh well. lmao
16

capper09

hope the server no make problems or we have only error info boxes... ;)

I was JUST thinking about the CW Pawn Shop! Awesome news, even though I'm broke as usual lol

@Amber
Yes, I knew there would be no more bonus weekends every month. Yet staff comments made it seem like they would randomly appear every so often and that staff would be addressing the fact that many users only buy csc on those bonus weekends, as well as the fact that sales brings in revenue etc.

There were a lot of comments left on that specific announcement that bred a lot of hope for users. We we re also told the bonus weekend special items would still be a thing; we all really really love those cute unique items! I know I miss them a lot. :D

Thank you for taking the time to look into it and give us information. We all dislike seeing the suffering market as it hobbles along; it's so sad.
22

Nice! But I probably won't be buying anything, unless it is a bonus weekend, or csc prices change

WOW what an unexpected surprise!

It's too bad we have not heard about the bonus weekend and CW submission rates changes that were going to happen soon. :) I bet the market (which is suffering) would REALLY appreciate such information or changes to occur on a bit quicker timescale.
