Not being an artist myself, I agree with those who believe it is the pet owner's creativity and ideas that are being rewarded, not the artist's. This is not an art contest, it's a pet profile contest.
I hope that thoughtful received a nice TROPHY, PRIZE, or ACHIEVEMENT for winning, but since there has been no mention of any such thing, i plan to send a small gift myself.

People pay for overlays or get them from friends made the way they imagine it, it's their creativity (not everyone is an artist). Same with profile codings. It's not like someone else took over the idea development or such, it's still something the person who owns the pet has thought of, someone is just helping to express.
