[center] Kallani stalked out into the dining room. She peered around the corners, making sure to duck down low and jump up high so that she could get a good view of the room.
The coast was clear.
Padding across the dining room as fast as she could without being too noisy,
Kallani kept a sharp eye on her surroundings.
Her siblings were all busy -- she had checked a little while ago -- but all the same,
it was better safe than sorry.
The glass door slid open soundlessly, and she slid across the doorway to escape outdoors.
It was a bright and cheerfully sunny day, and the world was alive with noise.
She could hear the neighbors throwing a ball around outside, and she saw bikers passing by on the road.
Everyone was enjoying the sun.
Thankfully, if any of her siblings were outside, they weren't within sight.
After a while, her desire to remain out of sight was overwhelmed with her desire to leap and play in the yard.
The morning dew was still clinging to the grass, and it tickled her feet as she worked her way across the lawn.
She ruffled her fur, and then got down to work.
She was here for an important mission, after all!
At the edge of the yard was a large tree house that had been built years ago by one of her older siblings.
She was the one most interested in it now, so it was more or less her space.
The others only came up very rarely, and typically only bothered her there if they needed something or wanted her to come inside.
She climbed up quickly, and at the tops, she scanned the yard again from the doorway, to ensure she hadn't been followed.
When it looked all safe, she ducked inside the house and got out her supplies:
some thread, a few needles in case she lost one,
and all of the possessions she had been collecting these past few weeks.
All of her family members had at least one stuffed animal.
Some of her older siblings hadn't played with theirs in years,
and they were just collecting dust, so Kallani figured it would be okay to borrow those.
A while ago, when she saw how much Morphesius still played with his toys,
she had come up with the brilliant idea to collect all of her siblings’ toys!
She had now requisitioned at least one plushie from every member of the family and had found a small, flat pillow.
Although her sewing skills weren't stellar, they would manage.
Starting in the upper left-hand corner of the pillow,
Kallani picked up one of the plushies and began sewing it to the pillow.
When that was done, she took another and then another, until they were all attached.
Time flew by while she worked on this important project.
While her family was large and boisterous, many of her family members were away a lot.
They had their own tasks to mind, and they didn't often all come together.
With this pillow made of their once-treasured plushies, she would be able to carry her family with her always.
"Hey, supper's ready!" Morphesius called out, jolting her out of her thoughts.
Her first reaction was that of surprise.
Was it dinnertime already?
Her second reaction was of panic. She hadn't asked for permission to use the stuffed animals like this!
She floundered briefly in her panic,
trying to figure out what to do with the evidence, when she saw Morphesius's head pop into the doorway of the tree house.
"What are you... Is that mine?"
"I can explain!" she said hurriedly, her anxiety making her voice loud and almost shrill.
But Morphesius was already gone.
"I'm telling!" he called over his shoulder.
She raced after him, bounding down from the tree house with practiced ease.
"Tattle tale! Sneak!"
Really, this was what she wanted with her always?
But when she heard Morphesius laugh, and she realized how comfortable she felt with such an easy day that had passed so quickly, so knew the answer was undeniably yes. [/center]
