Another clear out, another box of once loved but seemingly useless items haphazardly tossed into a cardboard box... Admittedly, you're beginning to wonder why you even bother looking through these - there's never anything of interest. Or at least, not usually. Tucked away in a corner is a pair of beaded eyes staring forlorn out of its dull, brown confinement; the thing is clearly woollen but worn, like a million tiny claws have slowly pulled away at the threading. If it weren't a knitted toy, it could almost speak...Oh, oh, hello! Who are you? Are you going to take me to a new home? Please don't leave me in this box. I don't like it here. It was much better outside, in the living room with the fireplace... Am I still there? Is this the right house? Oh, don't be offended! I move around a lot... sometimes it's hard to keep track! I've been a toy for kitty-cats for as long as I can remember - so many warm, furry paws and so many houses - but I'm still just as play-with-able. I promise! There's got to be more kitties in need of a cuddly plaything to keep them company... Please take me home.A little tag attached to its tail informs of the nickname "Squeakers" - initially you believe it to be a corporate attachment, no-doubt repeated across hundreds of models, until the phrase "hand-made for Tonic" comes into light. The fact that the tag looks a little less than professional should have given the game away, really. Someone clearly loved their pet enough to make them this, once. Perhaps it could be loved again.
