It is not a peculiar thing in and of itself to hear the sound of birds,
but to hear them -- spring birds, owls, and corvans alike -- in this particular cold and barren valley,
set between looming, snow-covered rocky mountains where no life tends to linger,
might be apt to startle even a seasoned explorer.

Moreso still, when a low, gentle bleating can be heard, the clop of small hooves on rock,
and a din -- such a din! -- when every wing and tiny voice responds.

Noone is quite sure why the birds follow Manaril. Is it because she calls to them -- or do they fathom something of this curious creature that we can't possibly know?
Regardless, on some days, the birds scatter their own ways
and no matter how much searching is undertaken,
for all the faint chirrups and murmurs of friends that linger in far-flung cold crevices,
the little goat cannot be seen.
