Roman Albrecht

Roman begins in media res, on a crowded sidewalk, in the space between class bells. He is the outline of a hero - maybe a little short, maybe a little reluctant, but the novel is still a draft. Besides, he is modern middle-class suburban youth at its finest, exhaustion and a strange existential restlessness worn almost proudly on tense shoulders.

If he is lucky, his plot will twist. Monsters will swarm the city, aliens will touch down, or he will be transported into a universe of dragons and conquering queens. However, it seems Roman is slated for the most difficult antagonist to overcome of them all - himself. After all, there's nothing quite like a promising bildungsroman undone by its protagonist.
