Legacy Name: Breagan

Breagan’s birthday was coming up in a week, and her devonti friend Buttercup had not yet managed to find a present for the occasion. Buttercup had checked all the various stores in their hometown, but nothing seemed to be a perfect match. The common devonti wasn’t happy about her inability to find a gift. She and Breagan, an angel tigrean, had been friends since they were little. It didn’t feel right for Buttercup to NOT give a gift on Breagan’s birthday.

Buttercup’s thoughts were interrupted by a loud shriek. The common devonti rushed towards the noise and found a graveyard kanis screaming for help. It turns out that the kanis had been ambushed and robbed of the Wizard Tokens she was carrying. The thieves had apparently run towards the dark mountains several miles away. Buttercup had traversed the mountains many times with little incident, so she rushed off towards the mountain to get the stolen tokens back.

A few days later Breagan was reading some graphic novels in the library. The tigrean raised her head and looked at the clock. She needed to leave so she could meet Buttercup at their hangout, a hill overlooking a beautiful sparkling lake. Breagan packed up her books and left the library. When Breagan arrived at the top of the hill, she was surprised to see that Buttercup was not there. Normally, Buttercup would have arrived at their meetup spot before Breagan. Breagan was confused and decided to head back to town.

A couple of hours later, Breagan went to her BFF’s house after hearing that Buttercup was recovering from some serious injuries. When the tigrean knocked on the door and the devonti opened it, Breagan was not expecting Buttercup’s reaction. The devonti recoiled in great fear and immediately slammed the door shut. It took quite a bit of coaxing from Breagan for Buttercup to finally open the door and let the tigrean inside. When Breagan asked her friend what had gotten into her, Buttercup burst into tears. She cried for several minutes before blubbering out the truth.

Apparently when Buttercup had been searching for the thieves, she had encountered a sun fester. The fester claimed that she had seen the thieves and would guide Buttercup to their hideout. The two pets walked until they reached a cavern that emanated a green glow from within. Buttercup and the sun fester entered the cavern and descended until they found the source of the mysterious glow, a giant rock formation. At this point Buttercup heard a loud hiss and was promptly attacked by shadowy beings. She tried to fight back but was overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies. The devonti found herself pinned to the floor. Buttercup then heard devious laughter and saw the sun fester wickedly smiling at her.

The sun fester then transformed into a nightmare fester and proceeded to speak these words:

“Before the sun sets on your friend’s birthday, you will hand her a gift that will bring grief to the hearts of many.”

The nightmare fester cackled and shot a beam of energy at Buttercup’s left foreleg. The devonti screamed in pain but the shadowy figures’ grip on her did not lessen. The nightmare fester wicked smile grew even larger.

“The mark…the mark on you ensures that this fate will come to pass,” the fester affirmed.

Buttercup then passed out as the cackling intensified.
