Araqiel wished he had an easier means to earn his living. He had worked in the mines as long as he could remember. He couldn't remember his parents or even how they died. He just was. Araqiel rested one day, bored and without work, and began to draw figures idly in the sand. As he did so, a stranger appeared before him and questioned what he was doing. Araqiel replied that he was simply entertaining himself, but the stranger replied that he was doing a very serious act. Araqiel became incredulous and tried to deny this, but the stranger explained the significance of the meaning of the figure Araqiel drew. He then commanded Araqiel to draw another figure, and upon doing so the stranger explained the meaning and significance of that figure. The pair continued this until Araqiel had discovered and understood the sixteen figures. The stranger then taught Araqiel how to form the figures in a complex manner and what the results meant, teaching him how to know things that could not be known with just the physical senses. After testing Araqiel's newfound knowledge and skill of geomancy, and revealing himself to be the angel Jibril in the process, the stranger disappeared.

Araqiel, thankful to his messenger that he learned this art, never revealed the art to anyone. He used it though. He became well respected as a wise one and was sought out by many powerful beings to be their good counsel. During his travels he collected the 12 sacred scrolls, mystical and precious stones to use as well as some rare books and interesting minions that wanted desperately to study with Araqiel. His favorite places to travel were those near the water though he loved to be in the high mountains as well. One day his messenger summoned him to attend an important event. There were 200 beings present. Some were geomancers like himself, some practiced necromancy, hydromancy, aeromancy, pyromancy, chiromancy (palmistry), and spatulamancy (scapulimancy). Araqiel listened and learned much. He was chosen to be one of the 20 Watchers and to this day is watching over us all.
