Story is the 4th sister of the Fates, or Moirai as they're sometimes called, the figures in Greek mythology responsible for spinning, measuring, and cutting the threads of life. Story is the youngest sister who often gets left out of mythology and lore; the misfit who was cast out by Zeus himself for not playing by the rules. She is the one who weaves the fabric before it is cut. While her sisters dictate when someone is born, how long their life is, and when they die, she actually determines how they live. Being the youngest of the Fates, she is prone to imaginative occurrences, romanticisms, and injecting happiness into the lives that she creates for mortal men and women. Before the world plunged into darkness and chaos reigned supreme, she would weave dazzling fabrics that shone with rosy pinks and vibrant blues, and the golden gleams of endless sunsets.

And so, for a long, long time, the world was at peace. Humans were being given lives free of heartache, jealousy, conflict, and pain. Atropus, the cutter of the thread, and the most bloodthirsty sister, was growing discontent with all of the goodwill and harmony, and began to savagely cut Story's cloths so that mortals were dying in cruel and unpleasant ways. The Gods too were becoming bored. They enjoyed watching wars, famine, and the struggles of mankind, and saw it as their entertainment. Eventually, Zeus came down from Olympus and bade Story to weave different cloths; ones that would inject miseries into human life. As the only force who could command the Fates and not submit to them, Zeus had the power to control the sisters and bend their wills. But Story refused. And so she was cast out.

For centuries she lived alone in a cave, looking down at the world and the suffering and pain that took over the mortals that she had so lovingly cared for. She watched as they slew one another over money, love, and religion. She saw mothers forsaking their children for coins, and husbands forsaking their wives for new flesh. She saw disease spread, crops die, entire populations being butchered and bled, and the earth's beauty disappearing under piles of bones and mountains of filth. She could not bear the heartbreak of it all, and so she went to Zeus, after eons of solitude, and begged him to give her back her sacred duty. She swore that she would not revert to her tender ways, and that if pain is what the Gods wanted, then pain is what they would get. And so Zeus reinstated Story as the weaver of life's fabric, and she once again rejoined her sisters and her loom.

And to this day, her fabrics are not pretty. They are dull and drab, and read of despair, hunger and hurt. But every once in a while, when no one is looking or paying any attention ,she'll use her golden threat to weave a cloth so heartbreakingly beautiful that the story within it sparkles and shines. It has to be well hidden - within the blackest cloth and deepest folds - so that the God's don't see this radiance. Their cruelty would not tolerate such mercy, and vengeance would be cast with a heavy hand.So, mortal men and women toil on, struggling to cope and bear with the lives that Fate has given them, knowing their meaningless existence can and will be over at any moment. But their stories have moments of such brilliance and joy, that even the darkest days can be blinded by a single drop of light.
