In a world where the ebb and flow of magic defines society, divine spirits tread upon parallel realms, tending to designated aspects of society and the worlds. They answer to those older than they, the most venerable of whom would have been in power for innumerable millenia at least. One of the oldest benevolent gods in mythology, known as the Cardinal, is said to rule over law and order in both divine and mortal realms. Once upon an ancient time, he'd had a name, and had walked the land with humans. But those memories were so aged as to have faded with time, slowly crumbling until he barely recalled more than blurred figures and landscapes. Not that he cared to remember what he had been before his ascension; his current occupation had held him for millenia.

With the recent chaos that plagued both the divine and mortal realms, Cardinal found himself even more occupied than usual. The perpetrations of authority and law (which now occurred almost every second) that drew his attention had forced him to begin micromanagement of his assets to ensure continued order amongst mortals and gods alike. While he expected those of limited lifespan to be difficult and unruly, it somewhat disappointed him that he now found himself having to divert his attention to his immortal counterparts as well. He suspected these recent upheavals to be related to last month's mass escape of souls from the underworld, and if that were to be the case, he would be in for a very large headache.

Hail the divine who rules not land nor the seas, but all men,

With the plume of steel, inks of blood, and his parchments of will.

The order of the realms, with a flourish of furrowed pen,

Is sculpted, by the god with the mighty, iron-clad quill.
