Inspired by Oscar Wilde's THE FISHERMAN AND HIS SOUL, folklore & faerie tales, Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET, and Florence + the Machine.

Michèle was born a very long time ago off the coast of what is now known as southern France.
She is a Nixie or Neck, Scandinavian water sprites who try and lure people into the water.
She has, for a while, resided in a lake in Wales. Currently, her lake is in Marchia Wallie / the Welsh Marches (Welsh lands ruled by the Marcher barons).
While fond of drowning humans, she is also very curious about them. Some of the other creatures warn her about talking to them, as they have had run-ins with ill-natured humans.

- eats raw fish. can hiss.

- Meets a handsome human man who stops by the banks of her lake. He assumes she is a brave bather. Finding her intriguing, he stops to talk to her and against her better judgment, she converses with him. He surprises her by stripping and jumping in with her.

- He visits a lot, and they fall for each other. The others warn her but she doesn't pay heed. They fall for each other.

- He eventually asks for her hand in marriage one day, and she agrees. She discovers that he is the son of a powerful lord.

- She is brought to the castle in a white dress to meet the Lord and Lady. The Lady immediately dislikes Michèle.

- Until the marriage, they are kept in separate quarters. Michèle is found out by a servant girl who sees her tail in the bathtub. The girl tells the Lady, who is delighted at an opportunity to ruin Michèle and separate the girl from her son.

- She drags Michèle to the prince and her court and throws her down. Michèle's trying not to cry as the Queen tells them she's a dirty liar and one of the seafolk, and she should not be allowed to interact with humans.

- the prince is hurt by this. The Queen makes Michèle a slave and a curio, making her come to her parties, dressed in tight human clothing. Creepy old lords dance with her and ask her to sing for them.

- She is not allowed to leave, locked in, sleeps in a bathtub full of water.

- Without Michèle knowing, the prince goes to see a witch, who says that the prince can be with the girl [in the lake] if he gives up his soul, as the seafolk do not have souls.

- He agrees, and gives up his soul. He sneaks into Michèle's quarters and tells her that he will take her home, and they can be together there. He doesn't tell her how he did it. She agrees to wait for him in the courtyard that night.

APPEARANCE » Deathly pale. Slight purple circles under her eyes. Her skin is a bit mottled purple, like a drowned person's. Very thin, bony appearance. Thin, angular face, sunken cheeks & high cheekbones. Long tapering green-blue-grey tail with a simple forked fish fin at the end. Five-foot-seven / 1.70 m in human form. Lots of straight/slightly wavy dark red hair, which is usually worn down. Shadowed dark blue eyes with large black pupils.

CLOTHING & STYLE » Naturally, she does not wear any clothing. In her human form, the hems of her dresses are always wet, which signifies what she is. Prefers cream, grey, and natural greens.

MISCELLANEOUS » Some grey-green scales cover her belly starting below the bellybutton and they trail down to her tail. Very sharp little teeth. Human-sized but somewhat pointy and forked green-grey tongue. Sharp nails. Large feet in human form. Long, thin hands.

PERSONALITY » Very political, very opinionated. Always speaks her mind, and rarely thinks before she speaks. Very curious.
Very eloquent, speaks rather formally. Very good speech-writer, and very good liar. Prefers not to lie, and values honesty. Slow to trust, but very loyal once her trust is gained. Enjoys debating. Likes luring humans to her and drowning them. Observant.
Holds intelligent people very highly, and thinks badly of those who are not at least as intelligent as her. Polite. Quick learner, resourceful, quick mind. Introverted. Kind. Stubborn, naive. Persuasive, charismatic, somewhat competitive.
